Malasadas in Hawaii are supposed to be the best thing going in terms of pastries. Leonard's Bakery was recommended by the locals as having the best malasadas on the Island. Needless to say, we tried them in various flavors and they were just OK; I mean, they were good, but they weren't "to die for". They remind me of jelly filled doughnuts you get from most bakeries. They were light and generously filled with filling that was lightly flavored. Best eaten "hot off the press", if you will. If you let them get cold, it's a wrap! There are varying opinions about the malasadas and because everyone's tastes are different, it's going to be difficult via these reviews to determine if you'll really like them or not.
