“Best Masalada ever”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

I had the flavor of the month, a banana Masalada, that is a Portuguese donut without the hole. Best tasting bakery item that I have ever had and it only cost $1.35. This is a little hole in the wall, but well worth going.

“Hot, fresh, made to order”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We absolutely wanted to try the famous Malasadas, and Leonard's was the highest rated reastaurant in Honolul. That was also near our hotel so we gave it a try. The bakery looks like it's still in the 50's with its neon road sign, it looks somehow like the Route 66 mom's and pop's diners. You can park outside the bakery (not much parking space neardby) and enjoy your food on the bench or take them home. We just wanted to try the malasadas, which are basically fried and sugar covered dough, so we ordered one each. We had the simple, plain malasadas. You can also try them filled with custard. They only cost one dollar each. They also offer other pastries, but malasadas are made to order, so we had to wait a little while for our order to be ready. They were delicious: hot, freshly baked, not chewy and surprisingly not greasy. We enjoyed or malasadas so much that we went immediately back in for more!

“Delicious”
Reviewed October 11, 2013 via mobile

When we visit Hawaii, a trip to Leonard's is always on the list. We love the chocolate malasadas. They must be eaten hot and fresh. We bought a few extras to eat the next day, and they weren't very good. Yes, they are fried and Sugary. You're on vacation. Live a little!

“A Must Try - or a Must Have?”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Take your choice between the two - since if you have not tried a Leonard's malasada - then it is a must try. For those of who have been lucky enough to visit or live on island - we fall into the must have catagory. Yes - the freshly baked ones really are that good - and a little Portuguesse bit of heaven in paradise. You can get them at the bakery - or if your out at the Stadium Swap Meet - you will find a truck there as well. On weekends - they sometimes will also be at the Peal Harbor NEX parkinglot as well. With cinnamon - please!

“Its just a doughy deep fried donut with lots of sugar on it.”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Its just a deep fried doughy donut with lots of sugar on it. Grease bread and sugar that is all. They don't have much else at the bakery to choose from. How this place is ranked so high is a mystery.
