Description: Join us for select Holiday brunch buffets, celebrate your family holiday traditions at Honolulu's most iconic restaurants. Hy's Steak House, one of the best-known steakhouses in Hawaii, has been a tradition in Waikiki for 40 years and continues to be a favorite with visitors and locals alike. Tuxedoed waiters expertly prepare Caesar Salad, carve Chateaubriand for two and flambè delicious desserts (like Bananas Foster and Cherries Jubilee ) tableside. The real specialties of this steak house, of course, are the USDA Prime grade cuts of beef - New York Strip, Porterhouse T-Bone, Delmonico and Filet Mignon - which are dry-aged and trimmed on the premises. The kiawe wood sears the steaks with an intense heat, while complementing the flavor of the fine beef perfectly. Enjoy a cognac or glass of Port from Hy's full bar in the intimacy of the library lounge, while enjoying the acoustic musical offerings of Audy Kimura, Vernon Sakata or Chris Hopper.

A New Years Day dinner turned out to be once again a dinner to remember. We went with relatives to Hy's Steak House known for their steaks and Roast Rack of Lamb. We were greeted at the door and ushered in by a very friendly and courteous staff dressed for the occasion. Our waiter dressed in a tuxedo greeted us with a smile and knowledge of the specials. We, being there before already knew what we wanted, the Rack of Lamb. We started off with a warm spinach salad and a fresh mozzarella and vine ripened tomato salad. Then came the entrees, Rack of Lamb for the relatives and a Peppercorn Steak with cracked pepper and a Madagascar Peppercorn sauce for me, knowing that I would be able to sample the Lamb as my fetching wife was sitting next to me. After all, it was New Year Day! How could she say no samples.. Feeling somewhat filled to capacity the dessert menu appeared in front of us. Based on the descriptions of the desserts, half our party of 6 ordered Banana Foster, Cherries Jubilee and the Molten Chocolate Cake. Now if you like chocolate this is the way to go. Creamy, thick cake with a Guava berry sauce and whipped cream. Kind of like a heart attack with a side order of cardiac arrest. What a way to go.. wash it all down with a cup of gourmet coffee and you're up all night! Worth staying up for the beginning of the new year. Very comfortable surroundings with soft live music by the in house musician made this a wonderful experience to start the year off right.

This restaurant has a classy wood-paneled atmosphere, a fire pit in the middle where the chef prepares all of the steaks in front of you over (mesquite?) coals to perfection, and the service is friendly and professional. The wine list is good. I have been there twice recently. The Delmonico was too fatty, but the filet was magnificent. Each were perfectly cooked.

After an extended sojourn through every Asian cuisine available on Oahu, Hy's transported us back to the old-style Chicago or New York steak house of the '50s. The trip was great. With oak-paneled, library style decor, a dress code to fit the surroundings, and enough elbow room between tables to truly merit the term private dining, Hy's has the ambiance to merit the use of the term. The wait staff is friendly, attentive but unobtrusive; the menu is classic steak and its offerings are high quality; the wine list is serviceable; and the side dishes fresh and well done It's a restaurant to visit when time isn't an issue and a long evening, with conversation, good food and friends sets the agenda. Hy's has a long history in Honolulu and the quality of the dining experience explains why.

This was our second time to visit this restaurant. The first we thought that the food was great but the staff were "stuffy". Since we are spending the winter in Waikiki we thought we would give Hy's another chance... we are glad we did! The food was outstanding and the service was too .Chris and James were our servers and they could have not been better. Also want to mention the busser Kirby (bussers often are overlooked but he was right there and very observant). We will be back and HIGHLY reccommend this reataurant if you have high expectations for a high end restaurant you will not be disapointed. The steaks melt in you mouth and the chef grilling them appears to love his job. The tream of Chris, James. and Kirby will be hard to beat. Try this reataurant and ask for thier section.

Waikiki was the last leg of my husband and my Hawaiin holiday of 16 nights. We chose Hy's randomly as we felt like a steak for our dinner. We were not disappointed. We booked but were seated in the part of the restaurant upstairs which did not have as much character as the section they call the library. On request, they moved us to a booth in this section and it really had character. It is quite Art Deco and reminded us of the steak restaurants we had been to in New York on a recent trip. We found the service was faultless and really enjoyed the "silver service".
Both our steaks were cooked to perfection and was very tender. I would recommend the flambé dessert for a table side experience. We had the strawberry flambé between us and it was delicious. It was also very interesting watching the waiter prepare other dishes at the table, for instance a Caeser Salad.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable meal and would go there again.
