I can't imagine where the folks that review this Hy's as great, generally eat. For a $200 dinner for two people it is very far south of good never mind achieving the excellence that it should maintain in line with true Hy's tradition. That said, only when I got home did I do some research and find that all the US restaurants were sold to other interests, thus a true Hy's experience is most definitely what your are not getting, at the least, in Honolulu. We have many years history of eating at Hy's Encore in Vancouver (and at The Sands and The Mansion when they existed) so we really do know what we 'should' experience. This definitely wasn't it.
Mediocre steaks, over-cooked asparagus, Bernaise Sauce that totally sucked tasting nothing like Bernaise, . . . it was pretty awful. We didn't even stay for dessert.
When, between the two of us, we can cook a much better steak, asparagus that isn't overcooked, excellent Bernaise . . . at home, well you just gotta give me something truly outstanding. This dinner surely wasn't it.
We've not been to RuthChris or Roy's but we'll be trying them another time. Definitely not here.
