Description: Join us for select Holiday brunch buffets, celebrate your family holiday traditions at Honolulu's most iconic restaurants. Hy's Steak House, one of the best-known steakhouses in Hawaii, has been a tradition in Waikiki for 40 years and continues to be a favorite with visitors and locals alike. Tuxedoed waiters expertly prepare Caesar Salad, carve Chateaubriand for two and flambè delicious desserts (like Bananas Foster and Cherries Jubilee ) tableside. The real specialties of this steak house, of course, are the USDA Prime grade cuts of beef - New York Strip, Porterhouse T-Bone, Delmonico and Filet Mignon - which are dry-aged and trimmed on the premises. The kiawe wood sears the steaks with an intense heat, while complementing the flavor of the fine beef perfectly. Enjoy a cognac or glass of Port from Hy's full bar in the intimacy of the library lounge, while enjoying the acoustic musical offerings of Audy Kimura, Vernon Sakata or Chris Hopper.

I can't imagine where the folks that review this Hy's as great, generally eat. For a $200 dinner for two people it is very far south of good never mind achieving the excellence that it should maintain in line with true Hy's tradition. That said, only when I got home did I do some research and find that all the US restaurants were sold to other interests, thus a true Hy's experience is most definitely what your are not getting, at the least, in Honolulu. We have many years history of eating at Hy's Encore in Vancouver (and at The Sands and The Mansion when they existed) so we really do know what we 'should' experience. This definitely wasn't it.

Mediocre steaks, over-cooked asparagus, Bernaise Sauce that totally sucked tasting nothing like Bernaise, . . . it was pretty awful. We didn't even stay for dessert.

When, between the two of us, we can cook a much better steak, asparagus that isn't overcooked, excellent Bernaise . . . at home, well you just gotta give me something truly outstanding. This dinner surely wasn't it.

We've not been to RuthChris or Roy's but we'll be trying them another time. Definitely not here.

My husband and I visit Hawaii every year for an annual getaway and have been doing so for the last few years.
We went with friends this year and usually go to the same restaurants, but this time were recommended by a local to go to Hy's Steakhouse as it known for the best steak in Hawaii
We were not dissapointed, the meals were outstanding the service old fashioned and the waiters even wear bow ties and tuxedo's
the decor is absolutely beautiful an well maintained, with a charm from a bygon era.
This restaurant is not cheap, but well worth the dollars if you are looking for something special....

Love coming here to Hy's. Of course alot has changed and Mortons, Wolfgangs, Ruths Chris etc are around. But there is something very nice about enjoying a glass of wine, having a slab of beef and listening to Audy in the background. Its an old school environment and esp when the staff have been there for as long as they have, they perfected everything from the way the order is taken to the way the desserts are made table side. worth it. reservations heavily recommended!

I just got back from Hawaii Feb/March 2013. I did my research before visiting & also with locals when I arrived about where to eat & I must say the locals recommend Hy's & it did not disappoint. It is expensive but it is well worth it as it is a great restaurant. It has a great selection & great service. The desserts a must! Make a reservation so you are not dissapointed!

We went last night and we are still raving about the meal we had. Hy's was nothing like we were expecting. It was like visiting a London Gentlemans' Club or a gorgeous old library. All timber panels, subdued lighting, formally dressed wait staff and musicians playing gently in the background. However to cut to the chase, we wanted a steak, and the steak we ordered: a 10oz Prime Rib Eye roasted in the oven was simply the best and finest we have ever eaten. It was beyond wonderful and cooked to perfection. We started the meal with the most flavoursome fish cake, and after the steak, whilst we were still in food heaven, shared a coconut and lime creme brûlée. Obviously quality does not come cheap, but it does represent value for money and definitely worth paying the extra for a meal which ticks all the boxes.
