Hit the Moana Cafe for a Sunday morning breakfast. This small cafe is located in the Koko Marina Shopping Center, in Hawaii Kai. Although we live in Hawaii Kai, we never had taken time try the restaurant. We'll probably be back. We had about a 20 minute wait. But there are lots of places to sit outside. In spite of the fact that there's a Zippy's just a few steps away, we avoided the temptation of quicker, cheaper food. I had the fried rice loco moco. Moana's loco moco is different from most. Instead of a hamburger patty, they use a slow cooked beef short rib, topped with two local eggs. The fried rice was very good and the brown gravy was ample. I was very full. My spouse had the MC breakfast, 2 eggs, breakfast meat and either home fries or fried rice. She took the home fries. Portions were of good size and service was decent considering how busy they were. The lunch menu looks very interesting, too. The downside is that the prices were on the high side. It was nearly a $40 breakfast for two when you include drinks, tax and tip. No doubt the food was excellent but the next time I might reconsider the Zippy's, on second thought, maybe not.
