“Great price for a hostel...”
Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

If you are not comfortable with roommates, please stay with another hotel. I had a comfortable stay from my 1st hostel. Even though, I had move from 3 rooms (one of them is my fault, one of them is their's), I had a bed with a locker (bring a padlock), basic bathroom, and a community kitchen on the first floor. Ages were from 18-60's and come from all part of the world. Maid will clean and mop every day and they do have computer service (fee) and wifi. There is no elevator.

We stayed in a room with 8 beds (4 bunk beds) and had a very nice stay. Here are some details:

STAFF/SERVICE: The reception desk is manned 24 hours and the staff was very nice. They even suggested that we pay one day at a time in case we wanted to end our stay early (otherwise there are no refunds if you pay for your entire stay in full)…this was a nice suggestion.

AMENITIES: No breakfast but they did provide instant coffee and hot water in the morning. Towels can be purchased for $1 and you can trade it in as much as you like for clean ones…very nice perk.

ROOM/BATHROOM:
-Room was clean and large lockers were provided (bring your own combo lock). The bed was fine, although I toss and turn and the bed was pretty squeaky. Hopefully this didn’t bother the roommates as much as I thought it did.
-No AC but it was not necessary due to the time of month we were staying
-Large windows with no blinds…nice for sunlight but not for privacy
-Outside noise can be loud so bring earplugs or just listen to music with headphones
-Bathroom was also clean and the shower pressure was good

COMMON AREAS:
-Two very comfortable hammocks. One morning I couldn’t sleep and went down to hang out in the hammock with the birds chirping…very relaxing.
-TV with good channel selection
-Appliances were good but perhaps they could use a toaster. 2 large fridges which were packed with everyone’s food. (*Tip – Be sure to label all of your food bags with your name, room # and checkout date. It was my own fault that I “lost” 3 beers by not following this rule. The lucky recipients of my beer could have thought I had checked out and left the beer)
-Wifi worked well and there were a good number of outlets

LOCATION: The best thing about this hostel is the location. You could leave the hostel with 2 minutes left in the sunset and still catch the sunset on the beach! Also, very close to an ABC convenience store (with overpriced food but decently priced booze), and also down the block from the main street that cuts across Waikiki Beach. Getting to the hostel via public transportation was easy. Catch the #19 or #20 bus from the airport to Waikiki and after about 1-1.5 hours the bus stop is 2 minutes from the hostel (get off in front of the Zoo). Cost is $2.50 for the bus (exact change required but you can pay with a $5 bill for two people). Also, big suitcases were not allowed but we had no issues bringing our backpacks on the bus.

I enjoyed the stay at this hostel in a dorm room. The hostel has a great location close to Waikaki beach. Rooms are sufficiently clean and spacious. Hostel is very close to everything travelers would need.

They offer very nice and cheap tours to the North shore (20$) and other tours and activities and they can provide you with some further information and travel advice but not everyone at the reception. The staff changed every moment at the reception, supposing they are volunteers

Unfortunately WI-FI does not work very well, only close to communal kitchen or the reception area.

I met a lot of new friends while staying here.

Stayed there 3 years ago and was awesome but now it was completely different!
Jesse the manager is a rude person, saw him yell at guests all the time, specially around 10pm, quiet time!
The other staff member are ok, but they don't hang around with guests, it seems that they don't want to have fun because of the manager!
If you like a place that they have no idea what customer service is that's the place!

I have stayed at the Polynesian Hostel Beach Club twice over the last 2 years and would go back there anytime.

The hostel is only 2 blocks from the beach and in very close proximity to everything a traveler would want to do in Waikiki.

Everyone I have ever met there was very nice and some of my fellow travelers have turned into good friends.

Room Tip: The 12 bed dorm is very crowded. I would instead recommend to stay in the 8 bed dorm. Room #100 is m...

One of the many hostels I stayed in while in Honolulu. Easy to find, close to the beach and the action and just across from the zoo, if you need a landmark. It is not the cleanest hostel in the world, but the standard of hostels in Honolulu is not high, however, this was one of the places I felt most comfortable in. As with other hostels, the staff vary as they are mostly volunteers, however, had a great trip to the north coast with a friendly member of staff... really enjoyed that day.

Room Tip: The less people in a dorm, USUALLY the less noise :)

It's not what it seems....that's saying it in a subtle way. The place is unkept, the 1st room that we had was so dusty that even in the bed there's a chunk of dust on top of the mattress (if you call it a mattress cuz it looks like a thick foam covered with the sheets). So we requested another room and put us in the 4th floor much better but the pressure in the shower is so low that showering will take you 30 mins and on the 2nd day we already killed 10 cockroach on the floor....The wifi service means you have to go down to the lobby to get a signal and all the rooms have no AC they forgot to add in the website.

Room Tip: If cleanliness is not your priority it's a place for you.
