Owner description: Further along Kalanianaole Highway is the Makapuu Lighthouse hiking trail. This easy route with its moderate incline to the 647-ft. summit is a popular spot during whale season between December and April. This is a definite photo opportunity even when humpbacks aren’t spouting offshore. If you’re really ambitious, tackle a pre-sunrise hike to the top so you can grab a glorious photo of the sunrise.

“Great spot for watching whales”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013

This hike is an easy one and good for getting out and moving your body. There are plenty of others on the trail to cheer you on. If you have dogs, they are welcome. Be sure to take your own water and snacks, as there are no concessions on the route.

“Gorgeous views from every corner on this trail”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

A very convenient trail winding up the hill and the views are magical and different after every curve. Don't forget to take a water bottle and a wind breaker as well. There is also a more rural trail besides the asphalted trail but much harder to walk and it seems to be much longer too. Fun site to go with children but don't forget the water.

“Great "easy" climb and beautiful views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

By Hawaii standards, this is a pretty easy 'trail.' It's actually a paved road, but it is fairly steep for me. As a native South Carolinian, anything more than dead flat seems steep! It's an easy enough climb, though, and there are cool pillboxes along the way. The lighthouse is beautiful and you have a good view of The Moks and Chinaman's Hat from the top. I went alone and took my time exploring around, but I still spend less than two hours total on the descent and ascent.

“Unbelieveable view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

A bit of a hike up there but well worth the climb. The view is spectacular! Take your time and enjoy the view all the way to the top. Remember to bring water.

“Nice walk with a great view at the top.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

This is something the whole family can do together. The road is paved and is not a bad climb. The view at the top is worth the long walk.
