“I love this spot!”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

This is one of the most beautiful spots. Definitely don't just go to look on a quick sightseeing stop - go and spend a few hours in the water. Suitable for everyone as the reef and fish are right at the shoreline. The water is crystal clear so you can see the fish even when not under the water. Great for kids even with just their goggles on as it is shallow in a lot of areas. You don't have to go far out to see the colourful fish. We found if you didn't move around much more fish would come out from the coral & they would be all around you. A good spot for an underwater camera.

You can get there on The Bus for $2.50, it takes a little longer than a booked tour but so much cheaper & you don't have the time restrictions. $7.50 to enter the park but it is worth it. Make sure you take sunscreen as it is easy to get sunburnt there.

“Crowded but relaxing....”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Went snorkeling on a Saturday afternoon at Hanauma Bay. Water temperature was a bit cold but once you're in, you adjust. You will have to watch a 10-minute video before you can proceed to the Bay and beach. There are concessions and a bathroom before you go downhill to the beach, and rentals available at the beach (fins, snorkels, lockers, etc). There is a tram that will take you both ways up and down if you don't want to walk. The reef is beautiful and you'll see plenty of fish; the day we went we saw 5 sea turtles!

“Best snotkeling for kids”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

You can see the fish above the water so if you have a little one whom is not interested in putting their face in the water this is a good spot for them. Go early if you are driving so that you get a parking spot. They will turn you away at the top if the lot is full.

“Worth a quick stop but CROWDED!”
Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

After seeing so many other great FREE snorkeling spots all over Oahu, this beach really is nothing special that warrants the admission charge and long hike from the parking. I suppose its proximity to Waikiki makes it popular.
It IS scenic from the overlook, and maybe worth a stop for just that (you get your parking fee back if you're there just for the photo op.)
It's just not worth the $7.50 to snorkel at a crowded beach unless you haven't the time to go elsewhere.

“A must see”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

Loved it here. The kids could just walk out in the water and see fish. We were there on a day that a seal was laying on the beach. Very neat to see.
