If you are not into ocean, but would like a nice walk under the shade of tall trees to see tropical plants, this is a place to go. Basically everywhere in the garden is stroll-able and lots of shade are there. This is run by University of Hawaii so there's no fee, but everyone makes donation. Also at the end of the trail, there's waterfall, but without rain, not much to look at.

We enjoyed everything we did in Hawaii. The Lyon was nice. We climbed the trails to the waterfall....kinda slippery. Shoes suggested instead of thongs:)

Great shaded trail, with amazing views & unusual flora. You could spend a few days just on the trail. See if you can get a better trail map than the free one as it is not always easy to tell where you are in the map. Map has some marker posts from trail. Marker posts are usually by a plant sign so I'm guessing there is a more detailed publication available.

IF YOU LOVE PLANTS, TREES, TRAILS THIS PLACE WILL BLOW YOU AWAY

Take road all the way to the top parking lot by the guest services for more info. $5 donation recommended but is worth much more

This place is relatively close to Waikiki and a world away in terms of its topography. You are in the rain forest and it is lush, green and tropical. This is a property where you have to do the exploring; it is not as formal as a botanical garden and you have to wander to explore the nooks and crannies; be prepared for it to be wet and a little muddy. Enjoy the sounds of the birds, the towering plants and trees and all the amazing flowers in bloom.

When you've had enough of the traffic & congestion of Honolulu/Waikiki drive up Manoa Valley to see what a rainforest looks & feels like. Expect some rain but they do have umbrellas to borrow & bug repellant if it's mosquito time. It's a beautiful place & for a $5.00 donation you could easily spend an entire leisurely day strolling through the different areas. Cockatoos make their presence known by their loud calls & can be seen flying from tree to tree.
