On the bright side, this property is well located, almost on the beach (you have to cross the street) and in the middle of Waikiki's shopping and restaurant life. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You get all the amenities you're used to if you know Hyatt.

Now, there are some drawbacks. First of all, this hotel needs to be renovated, refurbished, revamped, whatever you want to call the fact that it looks stuck in the late 80's. Don't get me wrong: it's clean... but worn out and outdated.
The swimming pool is a joke. It is so small that you really feel the crowd.
The breakfast is good but not tremendously good, though on the expensive side: 30 dollars for the buffet. But they are poorly organized. It takes forever to get people seated. That's why a line forms (this morning at 6:30 am already) even though most of the tables are available. Don't come after 7:30 or you'll be in line for a while.

Finally, a tip: avoid the rooms next to the elevators at any cost ! It sounds as if a plane is taking off. a few blocks away.

Bottomline: hotel OK if you can get a good bargain but certainly not worth the full price. And not up to the Hyatt standards. They can and they should do much better. That's why I give it only the "average" rating.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms next to the elevators !

Just returned home from the most relaxing holiday in Hawaii stayed at the Hyatt regency Waikiki resort and spa. Visited from the United Kingdom First class, Each review we did read before we went did say the rooms were out dated however I would say they are classical, very large, each room has either a king size or two double beds, coffee maker, desk for writing internet access. Plenty or room for hanging clothes in a large wardrobe and many drawers, ironing board in room with iron, hairdryer, daily maid with a $2 tip each day.

Yes we did pay the resort fee however it was only $12.57 (after giving my e-mail address to become a Hyatt gold passport member) a day very good for this you got free towels for the beach and beach chairs, body boards for the sea, towels for the pool area, access to the hotel happy hour which was between 4-7 and 2 bottles of water each day left in the fridge in the room. Other benefits included. The Hotel is situated at the top end of Waikiki beach opposite the police station, the pool is on the 3rd level of the hotel which means whilst on the sun terrace you can look over at the beach, so lovely. Yes the hotel is on a busy road and it can be noisy at night but it did not bother us. The resort is asleep by 11pm when all the shops close. The service in the Hotel was very good and it was spotlessly clean, we did not eat in any of the restraunts as there is so may others to eat at for better value for money. We were on the 8th floor with a partial sea view so nice. We came to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and me becoming 50 on Christmas day, seeing some of the other reviews some were given a bottle of champagne we didn't get anything, but it would have been nice :0(.

In the Hotel a farmers market was held each week, Fruit and cakes very cheep at just $4 for a large container full. The hotel Lobby is very pretty with a large waterfall and on Fridays a free hula show, there are many shops on the ground floor of the hotel again quite pricy but worth a look! ABC stores are every where 2 in the hotel one at each tower. The Swim bar by the pool severs the most delicious food and very reasonable in price.
Beware of the hotel Taxi service we took a ride back to the airport and it was $42 having had our car for 4 days we knew that the Taxi took us the long way round this was most disappointing!!!

Each tower had 4 lifts and we never waited long for one! Also you get a free 60min international call each stay at the hotel which is a little unfair is you only stay the weekend you get it but if you stay 2 weeks you get the same!

we did not use the spa as felt that was way over priced

A free bus does run up and down the road outside the hotel. You can pay $2 each way to go to Aloa Moua the largest shopping center in the world we did this with ease. on the whole Hawaii is very expensive. we made the most of having a car which cost us $440 for 4 days we explored the whole island, first going to the North shore if you can do this we would recommend it so pretty Paradise in its own right! palm trees coconuts and lots of unusual birds amazing colors. we also went to the windward coast very nice but not as nice as the North shore! The Leeward coast is very pretty but not for tourist it has its fair share of homeless beggars and we were told could be dangerous and could have been robbed!! we also visited the shopping outlets.
all in all very good! would recommend it to all!

Room Tip: lower level rooms at the front of the hotel make interesting looking out

Thank you for reviewing your stay. We are pleased to read that you had such a great experience in Waikiki and on Oahu. We are honored you spent these two very special occasions with us and regret you were not given a bottle of champagne. We will share this note with our front desk manager. My family and I spent one week here in early December and had a great time from checkin to checkout. We used the gold / diamond line to check in. Reception very friendly; we were all given lays and my daughter received a small stuffed animal from the hotel receptionist. Our room was a partial ocean view on the 17 floor of the Diamond Head Tower. We had a great view of both the ocean and the rest of Waikiki. Great location - directly across from the beach and near numerous restaurant and shopping options. Pool was small, but who really needs a pool when you are right across the street from the beach. Had a great dinner at SHOR with friends and family. Spent a couple of happy hours at the Swim bar. Looking forward to our next trip back.

My boyfriend and I just got back from a 4 night stay at this hotel. Right when you walk in, it's an open-air atrium with shops & a beautiful waterfall. Our front desk agent was so awesome and sweet! She was nice enough to upgrade us to an ocean view room & send us a bottle of complimentary champagne for our anniversary. The room was very nice and clean & we loved our lanai! The bathroom is also very important to me and it was clean and had Great water pressure unlike other hotels! The only suggestion I have is that they upgrade their 2 double beds rooms to 2 queen size beds instead for a bit more space. But other than that, I have no complaints! The farmers market in the atrium on Thursday afternoon was a nice touch, and this hotel is right across the street from the beach and right in the middle of the shopping and food on Kalakaua ave. Very convenient and in walking distance to everything. We also had the breakfast buffet at SHOR which was awesome! I loved their omelet chef, and their pineapples / fruit juices were delicious! We even ordered fried rice & garlic chicken appetizers to go from Japengo one night and were very surprised at how big the portions were! (especially for a hotel restaurant where you expect to pay a lot more for smaller portions). We highly recommend this hotel if you truly want to feel like you're in Hawaii and also for the cute Parrots they have around the hotel which say 'Bye' every time you walk by! so cute. We will definitely stay here the next time we visit Waikiki!!

The location of this hotel is unbeatable, My husband & I spent 10 day's at this hotel. We had a room on the 31st floor city view, which was a pretty nice view. The room was spacious and clean and the maid serve was great. However the rooms are dated, and the bathroom is small and there isn't an exhaust fan in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel itself is dated and old but it has charm. Check in was a breeze. We were given a card for the breakfast buffet which was good we had Terry twice as our server and he was great. We went to the pool the first night there and the servers at the bar were ok. the wait staff was good. the pool is small and fills up fast you need to be there early. The only problem I had was some vacationers left their children at the pool and went shopping, the pool is not your babysitter and neither is staff. We couldn't get into the hot tub because it would be loaded with kids and they had rafts, & pool toys in it. We ate at Seafood Village located in the hotel great food. Overall this hotel was great on location. If that's what your looking for fine. If your looking for relaxing forget. All of the staff were great. good trip

Aloha,

Thank you for providing your feedback from your recent stay. We are glad that overall you enjoyed your visit. We do regret the issues that surrounded the pool areas. We have shared your comments regarding the service in SWIM and the concerns regarding children at the pool. We have a clear policy that children are not to be left unattended at the pool and thank you for drawing your observations to our attention. Your comments have been shared with the supervisor for further review and discussion with the pool staff.
