“Neighborhood paradise”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

Is there really such a thing as bad shaved ice in Hawaii? This is just a small neighborhood store in Honolulu that serves wonderful shaved ice. Being originally from Hawaii, we stop here after going to the beach at Ala Moana on the way back home. It is not the easiest place to find since it is between Kapiolani Blvd and King Street but definately worth the search. If you want to drive all the North shore obviously Matsumoto's is fine but for the locals in Honolulu it's not worth the drive.
Parking is the biggest issue. There is a small lot Ewa to the store but it is difficult getting in and out. There is an abundance of street parking so it really is not that big of a deal.
Options in terms of size, flavors, with/without ice cream etc are massive. We always get the vanilla ice cream and vary the flavors. Regardless it is great. There are benches in front of the window where you order but they do not accomodate many people.
Prices are reasonable and are similar to the competition.
Would highly recommend after a long day at the beach or shopping.

“Decent not great”

A on ice consistency. C- on flavor. Flavors were weak. A bit of a hole in the wall. Parking around back. You can sit outside and relax.

“Soft as Snow”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

My favorite place for shave ice (next to Ululani's in Maui). I used to place Matsumoto's on the top of my list, but it's been replaced by Waiola Shave Ice (yes, you see it featured on Hawaii 5-0 but there's no kiosk on the beach, really). It's a little hidden from the main street--University, but it's across from the Safeway plaza. Just try it and you'll understand what I mean by soft as snow...

The shaved ice here is a little different than the North Shore but still very good. It was packed more so the texture was more slushy once you got to the end. Regardless, lots of flavors to choose from and you can get it with ice cream :) The boyfriend preferred Matsumoto's but I think this is a wonderful substitute if you don't want to drive up north.

“Add it to your shave ice circuit”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

Whenever we visit the island we try the shave ice from different places. This one is worth a try. It is located in a more residential area. They have lots of flavors to try and recommended combinations including Obama's favorite and Hawaii Five-O. Sometimes the syrup doesn't penetrate all the way through which makes for some plain shave ice. Service is fast. There is not much seating available. Try for yourself, the price is right.
