“A real snow cone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

Most of the time when you see something called a "snow cone" what you get is crushed ice. Wailoa's shave ice looks like snow; it melts immediately in you mouth, no crunchiness. Their syrups are not too sweet either. They have a lot of different toppings to choose from including, Azuki red beans, ice cream, condensed milk, custard, and my favorite, mochi. Try Lilikoi and Lychee if you like, or my husband's choice, POG, Passion fruit, Orange, and Guava. When we are back in California he will often long for one a Waiola Shave Ice.

“Great shaved ice but lacking in syrup”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

While the quality of the shaved ice in this little residential place is excellent, I ran out of syrup about 2/3 of the way down and they forgot to put my condensed milk on top. I came here upon a recommendation and loved the consistency of the ice which was almost akin to sherbet. But as soon as the syrup ran out, well ice is ice.

“Best shave ice!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

All the others pale in comparision to the quality of the shave ice. It's a little out of the way in a residential neighborhood in Honolulu but if you are close by, do stop here and have the best dessert in Honolulu. It is actually a convienence store that sells these wonderful concotions. I have been told that they have a patent on the machine that shaves the ice. Thus the fine ice crystals. There will be people in line ordering all day long. Open only during the daytime. Once you have one of their cones, you'll have a nice memory of Hawaii. I consider the place which only locals know about.

“very good shaved ice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

Family run business for a number of years- shows you dedication to customers. Loved the Azuki red bean shaved ice. the Small is large enough for two. Good good for a dessert and close to a bunch of other awesome Hawaiian eateries

“The ice is perfect, but they're stingy with the syrup”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

Shave ice is pretty simple; there's just not much to talk about here. The service was neither good nor bad - same can be said about the price. The actual ice is great - very small crystals, creamy texture, and very cold. Now that the ice is taken care of - the syrup is your average stuff, but there just isn't enough. After the first half-inch, the ice is pure white and untouched.
