When you take a stroll or drive along Kalakaua Avenue, you should not miss this statue, it is strategically located on the beach side of the road. This is a place of rendezvous because this is the most open place in the very busy traffic of Kalakaua road.

The statue of the Duke of Kahanamuko, whose arms are raised in a welcoming fashion, is representative of the Aloha Spirit that abounds in Hawaii. Behind the statue is the beach of Waikiki. The location is very strategic and very fitting because the legendary Duke of Kahanamuko is also known as the Father of Modern Surfing.

Seeing this statue made me appreciate the local history and realize how the culture brings joy to so many people through the ocean in Waikiki, including the surfing and paddle-boarding craze. It was a pleasure to see a beautifully sculpted statue at one of the world's most famous beaches. I remember standing there in a surreal moment.

Historical Hawaiian figure. Most tourists either walk by or take pictures with it. Many people leave their leis there.

Many tourists take photos here and this place is touristy. Duke Kahanamoku certainly deserves respect so my 2 star is not about denying him respect, but stating that there is not much here other than his statue and a very short bio. If you are in the area, drop by.
