We have been faithfully staying at the Malia for many years, as the kamaaina rate has been very affordable. We were not able to get that rate two times this year, and had to bite the bullet to pay a much higher rate. ON TOP OF THAT, my wife and I paid for the room, but when my daughter joined us, making the guest count now three people, WE HAD TO PAY AN EXTRA $30.00 per night for our daughter. This makes it a very expensive way to wash an extra towel, or change a sheet at the end of the stay, and is hard for us to justify that additional expense. Maybe we will be able to stay at a 5-star hotel with a kamaaina rate for the same price in the future. THINK ABOUT IT!

This was our second trip to Waikiki; both times we stayed at Ohana Waikiki Malia. This year was as enjoyable as the first. The outdoor jacuzzi & small pool were a great way to relax after a long day of sightseeing / shopping. The bulletins posted in the elevator were helpful in alerting us of building upgrades that would occur during our stay & helped us to avoid any unnecessary surprises. The reception desk & security staff were very friendly and helpful. The tour appointment desk receptionists were very knowlegeable about the various tours available.

My wife and i stayed for 7 nights and enjoyed every moment. The reception and staff were very helpful in particular Pam and Troy. The location was excellent and very handy to all forms of transport. We are certainly coming back to stay here and are looking forward to this around the same time next year 2013. We found the room on the 10th floor was more than adequate. The hotel is a short walk to the beach at Waikiki and the area abounds in great shopping. A magic trip.We had initially travelled to Oahu to attend our sons wedding on Maui so it was a bonus to spend the extra week in Honolulu. Liked the complimentary room available to tidy up on the day you are booking out, especially if you have a late night flight and want to lunch or do a little more shopping.

Room Tip: As mentioned above the room we had on the tenth floor in the Standard section was more than adequate

I recently stayed at the Malia for a week and I have only praises. I did not have a car but friends had rented and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. The location is most convenient easy to walk or catch the trolley just about anywhere. Also Melanie who works for the tour company was fantastic. She took the time to help with tour selection, bus routes, and always had a smile, I miss her. Also Pam at the front desk was very helpful. Mahalo for a great week with friends and memories.

We stayed at Ohana Wakiki Malia for 4 nights. My first priority is cleanliness and I found the room to be very clean. The location is great - just a five minute walk to Waikiki Beach, the International Marketplace. ABC stores - 2 within one block of the hotel. The front desk was always helpful and friendly. The room was on the small side - but we didnt' spend much time there except to sleep, so that wasn't a problem. Found a great diner for breakfast - Seaside Bar and Grill. It's across the street and down a block. Breakfast was $3.95 for 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 bacon strips. The coconut syrup costs an extra $1.00 - but worth it for the pancakes. As mentioned by other reviewers, the parking is tricky. The parking tower is very tight. Overall, a great trip! Would definitely stay here again on future trips to Oahu.

We stayed here 3 nights. We stayed on the street side which was very loud but we had a suite so we were able to sleep in the suite side on the sofas and get a descent night's sleep. You could not ask for a much better location. It is only a couple of blocks to most anything in Waikiki. The parking is tricky and I would not recommend a large car. Even with a small car you need to be careful.

Room Tip: Get a room on the ocean side if possible because it would be quieter.

We stayed at the Ohana Waikiki Malia for 10 nights in August 2012. We were pleasantly surprised that we were given a high floor ocean facing room at check-in. After exploring the hotel, I would not have been happy with a lower floor, or a room on the other side of the building that faced the neighboring hotel. We came into this trip with modest expectations having stayed at the Sheraton Resort on our last trip to Waikiki, but we found this hotel adequate given our luck in getting a good room. If you are looking for an inexpensive hotel and get a good price, this hotel is definitely worth a look. You can tell that the Ohana Malia is an older building that has been upgraded in a piecemeal fashion, and there's no hiding the lipstick on the pig with ice machines on only 2 floors and three different sets of elevators that only go to select floors. Here is a list of the pros and cons of the hotel that we found during our stay:

Pros:
- Good hotel location only a 5 minute walk to the beach and in the heart of Waikiki shopping and dining.
- Good housekeeping and friendly staff
- Pleasant view from our room
- Rooms were furnished in keeping with a 3 star hotel
- Excellent price for a Waikiki central hotel

Cons:
- Poor amenities with no on-site gym, a minuscule plunge pool, and no comfortable common areas
- Scary $20 parking garage if you rent a large vehicle or are not a good driver
- Archaic elevator system that requires you to go down to the lobby and get in a different elevator to get to the parking and/or laundry room
- Over half of the rooms in the hotel have a view directly into a neighboring building 40 feet away.
- Lots of noisy Waikiki bars nearby, and a bar/club in the base of the hotel (could be a pro too I suppose, but not if you value quiet while you sleep)
- Clearly a hotel that has been upgraded from a 2.5 star to a 3 star, but still has the bones of a 2.5 star

Room Tip: Try to get a higher floor room in the tower facing towards Waikiki Beach.
