We've stayed in the hotel before but this was definitely our last visit. Love the location, the history and views. However.... if you like to swim and expect to find a seat at the pool together (2) almost any time of day this isn't the hotel for you. We ended up sharing a chase, briefly, and only once in the entire week we were there. And don't expect to avoid the crowds by swimming the evening because the pool gate is locked! No food or beverages are allowed in the pool area and was surprised to learn that it was a chlorine. What is Hawaii without memories of some relaxing downtime at the pool. We really missed that. Very disappointing. I wish I'd seen a review like this on Trip Advisor.

Some of the staff was very friendly but somewhat spotty at the front desk. The rooms are large, basic and clean but this hotel is tired and the rooms are in need of renovating. The veneer on the bottom of our bathroom door had been peeling off for some time, had been painted over and was still peeling. If you want to print out your boarding pass you'll be directed to a rolling cart in a small corner with an ancient computer beside the front desk. Although this hotel still beautiful in many ways this is not the Illikai we remember.

Room Tip: Do not recommend this hotel.

Aloha,
Was sorry to hear of your pool experience with lack of available chairs and you will be pleased to know that a second pool area with loungers and seating areas is planned and should be completedwithin a year. All commercial pools are closed in the evening for liability purposes, but you can always enjoy the nearby saltwater lagoon located nearby. Food and beverage is not allowed in the pool area as it is serviced by the restaurant who provide these items. You will be pleased to know that the hotel is currently renovating its entire inventory and will completed by October.

The beds were clean. The showers were old and had mold that couldn't be cleaned away due to age. The baseboards were pretty dusty. The surfaces were clean, staff helpful, and location a little calmer than further down Waikiki. I'd probably stay next door at Hilton village if I were to go back to waikiki again. Honestly, if much rather stay on Maui or the other side of oahu from Honolulu city.

Stayed for 10 nights on the 25th floor with lagoon/ocean view, excellent front desk staff and outstanding valet service. Quiet location at the start of Waikiki beach. Entertainment most nights in the common area along with Friday night fireworks is a plus on the beach. Relaxing atmosphere, yet close to everything. I've stayed at many hotels in Waikiki and for the price and location, the Ilikai is wonderful!

Stayed here with our two kids 10 and 7 for three days. The hotel is basic and clean..nothing fancy or over the top. We've stayed at Westins and Fairmonts so this is a step down but right from Check-in, Rod was great in getting us registered quickly. The room as clean and comfortable and there was free in room wifi which worked great and fast and free! The kitchen in our suite was fine and could have been better stocked (more plates, pans) but we managed. While its a bit of a walk to the main strip, the hotel is located close to the beach (easy walking over the bridge) and better yet you can use the Hilton Lagoon if you have small children. The hotel also loans out beach chairs and boogie boards (just as the front desk) which were clean and came in great use. Parking is a bit steep at $28/day but at the time we were there the elite parking staff were very prompt and courteous. Staff were friendly and they met our needs. Overall a nice clean basic hotel to stay in Honolulu for a short trip.

Room Tip: Recommend high floor if you are facing the city to avoid as much of the noise.

My husband was totally psyched to stay at the same hotel featured in the opening credits of Hawaii 5-0. The location was great. We liked having a little kitchenette, and sliding doors between the sitting area and bedroom, perfect for traveling with a small child. We enjoyed walking along the waterfront and beach in front of the hotel.
Valet parking was $28 per night, which seemed expensive.

Room Tip: We could hear but not see the Hilton Friday night fireworks, so ask for a room facing the Hilton if...

We love the Ilikai :) Great location right on Waikiki next to the Hilton you are very central but a little quieter than right central on Waikiki.
We rent online from a rental property company but you can also rent directly from the ilikai hotel, the difference Is the private condos have kitchenettes. pricing 119-140 for a double depending on the season...cant beat that price for Honolulu !
I will keep coming back again and again, love the Ilikai hotel.
Tips-check out the Mai Tai restaurant downstairs, great happy hour from 1030am-6pm daily, $3 domestic beers and snacks.

Room Tip: marina view

Stayed 4 nights at the hotel and had a great time. The Ala Moana Shopping Mall is a 10 minute walk away while the Duke lagoon is right in front for young kids. Used the valet which was pretty decent for Honolulu but it saved time finding your own parking space and bringing young kids around to the car.
