The hotel its self is very clean and nice rooms. However it is definantly one of the older ones and you can see it from the outside. The inside is nice and they are remodeling to bring it up to date. The hotel needs a spa at the pool though.

We have stayed in Waikiki many times, usually near Kapiolani Park area-it is busy and noisy there ,along with many homeless asking for help-staying at the Ilikai was a quiet haven for us-we booked our condo through alohacondos.com-unit 1938-it overlooked the Hilton Hawaiian lagoon and one of their pools and is perfect for watching the Friday night fireworks. You also have a ocean view-the condo is well equipt-having a kitchen is a bonus-Foodland grocery is nearby at the Ala Moana Mall-about a 10 minute walk away-also the trolleys and city buses stop right in front of the Ilikai. The sofa sleeper is not very comfortable but other than that this was a very cozy condo. We liked the Ilikai Bar and Grille in the beautiful courtyard that overlooks the marina-which has the most gorgeous sunsets-From now on we will stay at the Ilikai!! The Ala Moana Park also about a 10 minute walk away is beautiful! Thanks to Alohacondos for an amazing vacation! On the lanai was a storage box filled with beach chairs, sand toys, beach umbrellas, ect which we used-another nice bonus! We had one minor issue during our stay and aloha condos took care of it immediately.

Room Tip: Lagoon side for the things mentioned above-marina side for it to be quieter. Some of the rooms are mo...

We just returned from our second stay at the Ilikai Hotel. Both times our experience there was excellent. All the rooms are on the upper floors. (The lower floors are condos). Both times we were on the 25th floor, which is above all the noise, has great views and 2 lanais. The rooms were spotless, the staff is friendly, everything works, and there is nothing negative to say. When I filled out the survey that the hotel does, the only suggestions I made were: more utensils in the kitchen (at checkout they told me that if I had called the front desk they would have sent more up) and the Concierge could have been more helpful. Other than that, everything was perfect. For me, one of the most important things is peace and quiet. We never heard another house guest the whole time we were there, and as mentioned, being up so high, if you keep the sliding doors to the lanais closed, noise from the street is very low. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite for the 4 of us. The mattresses were very comfortable. The main room is much bigger than the other hotels that we looked at. The sofa was a pull-open bed, so we could have slept 2 more people. We were very satisfied and would definitely stay there again. There are places that are cheaper, but this is worth the extra.

Room Tip: We had a corner room: better views and two lanais.

This was our first time staying at this hotel, we based it off pictures and reviews on here. Overall it was a great experience. We checked in May 8th and left May 14th. We had a ocean view and they put us on the 25th floor, which gave us a beautiful view. The staff was super friendly and we did use the concierge downstairs to book a few excursions and we had them set us up with a rental car for a day. Them booking our car saved us around $50 for the car with Alamo, which is literally across the street. The cafe downstairs was pretty good for breakfast, I loved the Loco Moco!! Yummy!! We also ate one night at Sarentos at the top of the hotel, we both had the filet which was delicious and the view is beautiful from up there.

The only 2 bad things was the shower had mold in it and the bed was hard as a rock, we had to take back ache pills nightly due to how hard it was. We stayed in a regular room, not a full condo and the room was a very nice size. The hotel is not right on the beach, it is a good walk so make sure you have all your stuff. The Hilton next door does rent umbrellas and lounge chairs for a fee but well worth it.

If using cabs ask rates before you get in, they all have different rates. You can bargain with them, to go from the hotel to the mall should run $7 but the cab driver will say $10, but once you say you paid $7 they will lower the price.

My husband and I visited Hawaii for our 5th anniversary/ honeymoon in April 2013. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We arrived around 10pm and were quickly greeted by the valet staff. They were always friendly and helpful. The reception check-in took under two minutes and we were off and away to our room. The carpets of the hotel are a bit worn out. They show their age, but nothing too much that distracts from the "comfortable" feel of the hotel. The lobby was open and spacious. It had a modern feel to with a throw-back to the 50's when the hotels were in their glory days. The lobby was clean pleasing to the eye. There were plenty of areas to sit in the expansive lobby and enjoy the breeze from the open lobby. It had a paradise feel to lobby which was quite welcoming. The room was clean, the chairs worn. Our chair looked like a cat had used the arm rests for a scratching post. The room was VERY large. We were on 22 floor. The view of the harbor and partial city was beautiful. The side we were on - which overlooked the Modern hotel's pool and the Ilikai's large patio was perfect for sunsets. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows lacked in quality - although they offered 7 on our bed. The bathroom had recently been remodeled and was fine. It was a tight fit with the door and a person using the toilet. The shower was very large and clean. The room also contained a desk, a dresser and two night stands and its only AC unit which was housed on the balcony. We enjoyed the large open balcony doors and preferred to keep them open than use the AC.

Their lounge outside was reasonable priced and on the lower end of price ranges compared to other hotel's restaurants. They had some delicious drinks, but the hotel's bar/grill closed had their last call around pm. One of the downsides to Waikiki was that almost everything closed around this time.

The hotel's pool was extremely small in comparison to the other hotels. Granted, this is more of an "original" hotel, the pool area could stand to be updated. It was clean however.

The two down sides to the hotel were the walk to the beach. The walk was about 5-6 minutes to the actual beach, although it was closer to the man-made lagoon of the Hilton's. Carrying their chairs, towels and other beach supplies made it a long journey. We were pleased they offered towels and beach chairs.

The other con was the smoking section at the hotel. The smoking section is placed right at the walkway to the beach access. You had to walk through puffs of disgusting smoke to enjoy the rest of the W.B. or to return to your hotel. It was really poor placement for this. It was also on the pool's wall side. If you did spend time at the pool, the cigarette smoke wafted into the pool area frequently. Poor planing for placement. The Ilikai is located at the very end of W.B.. For the amenities it lacked, it made up in price for a affordable vacation.

Room Tip: The higher up, the better sunset. Nothing in your way to block the view if you are on the harbor sid...

Recently we sailed from Sydney to Hawaii and spent 3 days pre second cruise and 3 days post second cruise at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites. We had an oceanview room. The room was great very large with both shower and bath in separate bathroom. Views of the marina and beach to complement the room. The staff were fantastic and they could not do enough for us. We were able to leave a considerable amount of our luggage with the hotel while we sailed on the Pride of America for a week. The luggage porter is a really nice guy and nothing was too much trouble. Laundry on each floor allowed us to do our washing and come home from holiday with suitcases of clean clothes what a change was that. All in all I would recommend this hotel for its proximity to everything. We walked to Ala Moana Shopping Centre, grabbed a shuttle to the international market place and could stroll to our choice of good restaurants. The king size bed in our room was fabulous to sleep on and overall the vibe is relaxing. If you get to Honolulu you should check this one out.

We have stayed in many nice rental properties, but condo unit #1511(VRBO #436164) and its owner, are the best we've experienced. The Ilikai has hotel rooms, time share units, and condos. Clint equipped the condo with nice furnishings and appliances...and more. My husband said several times, "He's really detail-oriented." Clint thinks of things his guests may need and provides them. He also responded quickly to questions and went above and beyond by telling us we could check in early!

The location of Ilikai Hotel is great for easy transportation, beach location, and shopping. To get around, we used the Waikiki shuttle, which has three different routes, and stops at the Ilikai. The beach is a five-minute walk onto a very nice section of Waikiki. (In fact, we walked through the Sheraton Waikiki where I stayed years ago, and there is no beach there now.) We carried beach chairs and boogie boards that Clint provided, along with our towels and drinks -- all in one trip. One day we rented a paddle board ($35/hr.) and it was fun! For grocery shopping, we went to Foodland at Ala Moana and paid about $5-6 (including tip) for a taxi back to Ilikai. For other trips to Ala Moana to shop, we crossed the street and caught the Waikiki Shuttle there. See Cat at the concierge desk for help getting shuttle tickets.

To visit Pearl Harbor, Cat secured a rental car from Alamo, which is across the street from the Ilikai. It was cheaper than airport rates I perused on Kayak.com. The Alamo people were great and we signed papers and were driving away, all within 15 minutes!

We celebrated our 25th anniversary during our stay by having dinner at Orchids in Halekulani Hotel, which Cat suggested. It was a very nice restaurant overlooking the beach and ocean, the food was great, and the service was outstanding.

One of my favorite parts about staying in the condo was having breakfast on the roomy lanai that overlooked mountains and Honolulu. The patio furniture was nice and comfortable.

We washed some clothes in the laundry room next door to the condo -- and we never heard any noise from the washers or dryers. Clint provides an iron and there is an ironing board in the laundry room.

I swam in the pool one day, which was well-kept, but preferred being in the clear ocean where we saw large sea turtles one day!

Overall, Clint gets my vote as the most accommodating host we' ve ever had for a rental property, and we certainly enjoyed his nice tastes that are true to the photos on VRBO!
