My family and I stayed there for 10 days during Christmas 2012. The location is good because it's near the beach and a convenient store - ABC. the partial ocean view was great. However, during our stay, a number of people and us got stuck in an elevator a few times. Two elevators were not working properly. The water was constantly dripping from the shower head. The air conditioner was very noisy. The sliding door to the balcony was so tight and heavy. I hurt my hands and wrist every time I had to open and close the door. The sofa bed was probably older than the aging hotel. The mattress was sagging, hard and very squeaky.

This hotel has an excellent location and great ocean access. We had an ocean view room and it was wonderful (worth the extra few bucks). The staff is great and very helpful. The grill downstairs has good food and is as a great food option. This hotel is within walking distance to everything.

I stayed at the Illikai in mid-January for 3 nights. I had a great view of the ocean and harbor from the 25th floor. For the price, it was overall a great deal and I would certainly recommend it to anyone going to Waikiki.

Great location for public transportation, walking and services. Near parks, shopping and restaurants. Staff, valet parking and housekeeping were helpful and courteous. Housekeeper, Clarita, was exceptionally accommodating and honest.

These comments are regarding the Bar & Grill. Ever since it changed to Da Big Kahuna staff in early 2012, the quality of service, attitude, food, and atmosphere has decreased 100%.

The girls working there dress (AND ACT) more like strippers than waitresses. The majority of them have absolutely NO service industry skills; i.e., walking past customers 3-4 times before acknowledging them, joking at the bar with their boyfriends that visit instead of checking on their customers, and forgetting parts of the order.

These girls will tell you that they prefer working at Da Big Kahuna bar because that's where the tips are. They say NONE of them want to work at the Ilikai bar & grill and their work performance makes this painfully obvious. At any given time, 3-6 of the 10 bar stools are occupied by waitresses/waiters taking breaks, getting extremely drunk after work, or watching TV before work. They should not be taking up the barstools on their breaks.

I witnessed a family walk out when a half-naked waitress with her foot on the bar, who said she had finished her shift, was drunk and eating sloppily at the bar, who then leaned her head back and let out a huge belch. Not only didn't the manager or barmaid tell her to leave, they laughed along with her and kept feeding her shots. I've seen several waitresses finish their shift and get sloppy drunk at the bar, using loud profanity and rude mannerisms. Although they are off-duty, they continuously walk behind the bar to pour themselves shots and other drinks.

A couple of weeks ago, one of the bartenders was drinking with the Ilikai security lead, and he had several personal mini bottles of alcohol lined up on the bar that they proceeded to drink with mixers from behind the bar. I've seen the Ilikai security lead and other Ilikai security staff drinking with the bar & grill staff on more than one occasion. I am a Security Manager, so I understand how unprofessional this is and how much liability it creates for the Ilikai hotel.

As a final note, the local musicians they bring in to play should be stopped. Their wires are all over the place, they are in the way, and their amps are either too loud or sound blown. Families want to hear themselves talk when they eat there and people at the bar (when they can wrestle a stool away from the staff) want to watch the televisions. I understand they are trying to create a Hawaiian ambience, but people on vacation already know they're in Hawaii and I believe would rather eat without having their eardrums tortured.

The bar & grill had much better service, better food, and was more family oriented under the previous owners.

Room Tip: Get a lower floor on the marina side. I was on the sixth floor for over 19 months and it was nice to...

Stayed at the Ilikai this month and enjoyed the experience. After living in Hawaii for a number of years and now returning as a tourist the Ilikai is a very familiar landmark
. It has been there since the early 60's. Room renovations ongoing at the property. We got rooms which had recently been renovated and were quite comfortable. We were on upper floor and had delightful views of the Ala Wai yacht harbor, Ala Moana Park and the mighty blue Pacific. It is located at the entrance to Waikiki and not in the heart of things. However it is within walking distance of Ala Moana shopping center ( which they tout as the worlds largest outdoor mall), as well as many great restaurants (the food court at Ala Moana has something for everyone - check it out). The huge Hilton Hawaiian Village complex is right next door with a bunch of food and beverage outlets ranging from fast food to luau's, fireworks every Friday night, Hawaiian music, shopping bazaar, sunset sails, water toys, and the list goes on. On the other side of the Ilikai is The Modern Hotel with Morimoto's, Red Lobster, Outback and across the street is McDonalds. Within two blocks there are Italian, Thai, Indian, Japanese, Chinese and just about any ethnicity you would like. Parking is expensive ($25/day) but there is a convenient trolley that goes throughout Wakiki about every 40 min. for a nominal fare. All in all a good deal with clean, comfortable rooms and public spaces . check it out - or rather -- Check in!

Room Tip: Do your homework on where you want to be, compare rates and look for deals, especially in shoulder s...

the Ilikai Hotel was the perfect stay for the week before the Christmas holiday. The location is super, alittle out of the way of the mass of Waikiki hotels. There's a beautiful walkway along the beach that leads in front of the other hotels. The deck of the Ilikai overlooks a marina and is just plain gorgeous and so restful. As it is so easy to get around the island it was a bonus to have a bus stop right in front of the hotel. My stay was just plain perfect.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the city are treated to a rainbow quite often.
