“Fantastic condo rental through VRBO”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Stayed for 18 days great location. Close to everything but still away from the main Waikiki area. We rented a condo through VRBO. You are next door to the Hilton where the best beach is and only a 5 min walk

we honeymooned at this hotel and were very impressed. We only stayed in the hotel itself for the first 2 nights before moving to a condo within the hotel; but it was a lovely experience. The views are spectacular especailly if you can get a marina view (you can watch the sunsets) or a lagoon view (the friday fireworks!)

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was large, clean with a great mountain/city view. The outdoor bar/grill had great food and drinks, friendly staff and multiple tvs to watch games. The location is right on Waikiki beach and in walking distance of Waikiki venues.

We rented unit 1938 from alohacondos.com, which Kat made easy and enjoyable. A great unit overlooking the lagoon, we comfortably slept three. Loved having a sliding wall between the bedroom and living room plus a full kitchen and free wi-fi. The owners also stocked the place with beach gear for us to use, which was great! (Unfortunately the flippers wore out on us, but we walked over to Walmart and replaced them, picking up bargain-priced t-shirts and chocolate-covered macadamea nuts for famly back home at the same time.)

Others traveling with us booked through the hotel paying about the same for a city-view room (really big) that had a mini frig and microwave (and daily room service). Location is great for walking to the southern end of Waikiki, the Hawaiin Village and Ala Moana Shopping Center, but away from the nightlife and hubbub. We loved swimming and snorkeling right next to the hotel! It's a little older and no longer glamorous, but a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lagoon get the best view of Friday night fireworks at the Hilton. City-view r...

My husband and I stayed at the Ilikai in condo #1522 this fall. The condo was a private rental but was amazing if you have the chance to stay there! The room was spacious, newly renovated, and had everything you'd need for your stay. But our favorite part was the awesome view from our balcony! We'd sit out each night and enjoy the view of the Hilton lagoon and Friday night fireworks, the beach, and on certain nights, we could watch the luau as well.

As far as the hotel went, the location worked for us, we were close to the beach, had everything we needed around us, and the Hilton's shops and services next door gave us some great evening shopping and dining options. As well, there was a small grocery store on site that had a great selection of food, liquor and pharmacy items that were very reasonably priced and open until 11:00 at night. Very convenient!

The concierge and front desk staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful, and we could book car rentals and excursions right at the desk. As well, the hotel had the Ilikai Bar with outdoor seating which had very reasonably priced food and drinks, as well as live music in the evenings. We chose to spend a few nights here rather than wandering down the beach and paying $10 for a beer.

All in all, a great hotel, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone planning to stay in this area!

Room Tip: We stayed in room #1522, newly renovated. Great space! Would definitely recommend facing the lagoon...

There was 10 girls on a week long holiday. We all rented condos with 2 girls per condo. Each Condo had 2 bedrooms. I was a gate crasher on this trip so we had 3 in our condo. Each bedroom had an ensuite with a kitchen and living area as shared. My sister and I shared 1 room that had a king bed and the other girl had a double and a single.

The rooms were clean and had everything that we needed. We had a view of the bay and over to the luau at the Hyatt.
The pool was great. We sorted our own breakfast and ate out for the other meals.

It was a pleasant walk to the Ala Moana but definitely a bus trip back!
It was my first time to Hawaii and it lived up to my expectations.
Yes I know that Honolulu is not typical but it was what we wanted for a holiday. We went to the Waikale Outlets, Pearl Harbour and snorkelling at Hanauma Bay. Some of us also did a helicopter flight that was fantastic!!

We walked into the main street on day and it was a bit far! I had very sore feet after that.
Yes I would stay there again but I would look at staying closer to the main beach area to try something else.
Very happy with our week there.

Hotel was booked as part of AQUA hotels. This is more expensive, eventually we found out there cheaper alternatives (through owners) which we did not risk doing as it was our first time in Hawaii.

Taxi fare from airport to the hotel is around USD35-40 one way (tip included). This is not a bad price thanks to its location, which is at the edge of Waikiki. So, it is relatively quiet and far from the Waikiki area. However, it's only about 20-30 mins walk to the Waikiki area, and if you're lazy, can pay USD2 per person for a hop-on hop-off pink line Waikiki Trolley. The Ilikai is also near the Ala Moana Shopping Centre, about 10-15 mins walk.

My initial impression of the hotel reception was not good (this lady works on the Friday night shift). She seemed a bit fake and somewhat unhelpful. However, the next few days, there were far better hotel reception clerks. Valet guys were good.

Our room was very old. The dishwasher was not working (luckily we don't use it anyway). The decor seems very 1970s, which suits some people. I got used to it eventually because the ocean views and sunset made up for it. Shower is a bit old and may need stronger water pressure. Maybe other rooms are better.

There was a free WIFI which is a big bonus. There's a bar/restaurant downstairs which had huge and affordable meals. The coffee shop is also very good! There's a shop to buy other goodies (mart) which is reasonably priced. Washing machine and dryer available for 10 x 25c per machine on each floor.

However, at one time during our stay, some alarm went off at 1am which was annoying.

Overall, I highly recommend this for the location (quiet and relaxing), the free WIFI, availability of laundry on each floor and affordable food/coffee downstairs. Would pay to research cheaper options to this hotel & suite, and get the ocean view!
