This extension of the original Inn lacks the local flavor but continues the original's abundance on food on each entre. The menu reflects the eclectic culture of Hawaii and you will find hybridized food from China to Thailand with everything else in between. There is also a mix of local Hawaiian cuisine. Each entre is more than enough for two people so more the better to share family style. The salads easily is enough for four people if taken as a dinner salad. The fish, steak and pork chop entres are the core of their menu. The fried rice rice plates, be sure to share are very popular with all. The place just buzzes during meal times and the staff are sometimes overwhelmed but they do their best to keep up with needs of all the eaters. Kapahulu also has Leonard's (malasadas) and Waiola's (shaved ice) for dessert.

- most awesome = pork chops & fried rice
atmosphere; very convivial and laid back

Side Street Inn has two locations. The original one is near the Ala Moana Mall and it is literally on Side Street. This location is known for its food, but not it’s decor. The second one, the one we visited, is on Kapahula Ave to the East of Waikiki. It is in a more modern building, also with good food but the atmosphere is a little sterile. It reminds me of a sports bar.

They have a fairly large menu but the predominance of entrees center around pork. We tried their fried pork chops. The dishes are huge and are designed to feed 2-4 people. Every thing is a-la-carte so you pick sides that are also family style. The chops were out of this world! They were coated with a salt and pepper coating and are served somewhat crispy, cut into bite size pieces and are oh so moist. Several of the chop bones are also served. Just pick them up in your hands and enjoy.

They have a full bar with most mixed drinks around $6.00. We had a Side Street Inn Ale, brewed by Rouge and it was a very good brew.

Parking is limited in the area. They have valet parking after 5:00 PM.

The original location has been highlighted by Anthony Bourdain and has been mentioned on Hawaii Five O. So how could you go wrong?

The repairman at the hotel we were staying recommended this place and we were very glad about that! The servings are massive. We ordered a starter, salad and 4 entrees between 3 adults and 2 kids- way too much food. We could have done with only 2 entrees. The staff are great with the kids and made sure they were happy.
The Chinese Sliders were tasty - could do without the mustard. The Pork Chop was as good as the recommendation!
The valet parking is a good fuss free option, especially when you see the tow truck man sitting in his truck waiting for you to overstay your parking.
