“REWARDING!!!”

Mariner's Ridge Trail

Best...views...ever! This is my favorite hike on the entire island. Take it from a local. Skip stupid Diamond Head (so lame). This is way better and more rewarding.

As a resident of Waimanalo, it was incredible to see our town from such an amazing hike. One side is Hawaii Kai, the other is Waimanalo. We did this with our two boys ages 7 & 9. I would not recommend this for really young kids under 7 unless experienced in hiking. Not for elderly unless fit. It is absolutely one of the best hikes we've done! Truly Beautiful!!!

The Mariner's Trail is a challenging hike climb for folks 60+ like us! While certainly not crowded, we did see visitors along the way, so we felt safe. We'd recommend that you leave plenty of time to enjoy all of the foliage and views. We stopped often as the vistas were remarkable. There are many places along the trail that it was necessary to climb up over rocks and tree limbs, but it did not feel dangerous..... just challenging.

Thankfully we were able to drive right to the trail head, otherwise the walk would be quite long. Even if you decide not to do the entire length, there are wonderful views within a quarter of a mile from the trail head. In fact, the views are so good, we wondered several times if we had already gone as far as necessary. Other hikers kept encouraging us saying that we would know when we had reached the end. And they were right. You will have no doubt. You go until you have reached the edge of the world far above the Hawaii Kai Bay allowing you to see from Kaneohe to Diamond Head. The end of the trail splits to the right and the left. Be sure to see both ends.

I had to wonder which was more enjoyable....the vistas that stretched all along the coast or the lush vegetation within the forest areas. Both were wonderful. We're so thankful we found this trail.
