“Education made interesting & wanting to hear more”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

My husband & I enoyed this tour very much.
Our guide was Olav (retired army) & he made the whole tour so informative. This is how history should be taught to make it enjoyable & wanting to know more.
Olav was very professional & was well respected by all persons (civilians & army personnel ) that we came across thru the day.
We felt very priviledged to be on this tour & learned so much about what happened before & after December 7 1941.
Olav filled in all the pieces much like a story. He gave a real feel to some key characters.
We learnt things that aren't in books, yet once you know these facts, give you a far better understanding of the situation.
Ideal tour for high school students as would certainly hold their attention.
My husband loved the museum at the end of the tour....lots of artifacts thoughtfully placed together & gathered over time.
Well done.
The whole Home of the brave team are to be congratulated.
This tour should be a "must see"

Thank you so much for joining us on our Home of the Brave Tour! We are happy to hear that you and your husband thoroughly enjoyed your experience with us. Every review we receive is very important to us, and we truly appreciate the time taken to say such kind and helpful words.

Olav is an extraordinary historian who really brings life to his stories and does so in a captivating and respectful manner. Our ohana at Home of the Brave is lucky to have him on board!

We hope to see you both in the years to come!

“Informative and fun!”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

This tour's downfall is you need to be ready and on that bus around 6.00am. After the pickups, the tour goes on until 2.00pm. Drop offs are between 2 and 3.30pm depending on traffic, which is actually astounding in Honolulu. This tour costs $89USD. It is well worth it. Olav, the tour guide is probably one of the most informative tour guides I have encountered.

The tour commences from the moment you step on the bus, where video's are run from the era of the 1940's, showing music and assisting you to go back in time, whether it was your time or not. Full of narration and great stops. The guide also shows snippits of some old movies, which actually does assist in visualising what it was like back in that day.

The tour commences at Pearl Harbor and it is quite quick and orderly to get through and get on the boat out to the Arizona. There are stories about going to Pearl Harbour actually taking forever in queues etc. You then visit Wheeler Air Field, Schofield Army Barracks, Fort Shafter, Punchbowl National Memorial, & Home of the Brave Museum.

The buffet lunch at Fort Shafter you have to pay for, I didn't think the meal was that special but should have focussed on the sweets. Never mind. However the meal is not expensive. You really have to see the painting within the foyer at the Pineapple Pentagon. It's amazing.

The Home of the Brave Museum is an amazing little place. Lots and lots of things to remind you of the 1940's and some souvenirs to buy. The staff there are warm and friendly and it is a privately run museum. They even provided free beer on tap.

This tour is extremely enjoyable and I'm not particularly a war buff. I gained new knowledge and had fun - I recommend this to everyone.

“Hawaii's WWII Military Base Tour”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

This is an excellent small-group tour. The family who runs the tour also has a WWII Museum. Our tour included Pearl Harbor, Schofield Army Barracks, Wheeler Army Air Field, Ft. Shafter, the Punchbowl National Memorial, and their museum. While anyone can go to Pearl Harbor without paying for a tour, we found this to be so worthwhile. The tour company secures an early morning spot to experience Pearl Harbor, and explains the best way to go about it. The comfortable coach also had videos playing pertinent to the era. The tour guide was very knowledgable and he made the tour come alive!
