“walking shoes needed”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

It is an interesting hike up to the top of the crater, my advice would be to do it early in the day, it gets pretty crowded, because everyone want's to see the magnificent view from the top. and wear comfortable shoes.

“Worth the climb!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

Slow and steady wins this climb and decent. Careful on the tressle, but a very beautiful view awaits you at the top. Bring water and a snack and enjoy your accomplishment. Few locals have even attempted.

Beautiful view at the top! Don't get discouraged, take breaks as needed and bring lots of water and sunscreen! The hike is definitely worth it!!

“Glad I did it, but won't do this again”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Don't let the length of this hike full you. This is a steep climb on an old railroad track. You better have good knees and a good heart or don't even bother. I was one of the few senior-types on this trail, but even the 20 somethings were huffing, puffing, and wiping sweat from their brows. I recommend not going in the heat. Either start early or start late, allowing yourself enough time to get back before dark, or you will increase your discomfort. Note that some hikers had problems finding the parking lot on the way back as the sun started to go down. It was a beautiful view on top but crowded! It's one of those hikes that I'm glad I did, but I wouldn't want to do it again.
