“The best music, food just fair”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

We ate here three consecutive nights just so we could listen to the amazing Hawaiian music. Each night was one-of-a-kind for us, truly enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food was just fair. I guess it is just a "pool bar" so maybe my expectations were too high. The service, however, was excellent. We were told we couldn't make reservations but were chatting with a manager one night, and when he found out we were returning the next night, he reserved a table for us with a great view of the stage. I would not hesitate to return for the music, knowing the food will just be OK.

“Great music! Good food! Great service!”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

We intentionally made sure to get to this place on Wednesday, as that's the day that Cyril Pahinui, Slack Key Guitar Master, performs. He is AMAZING! We were also there on a Friday, and the band was good, but not above the usual bar band, IMO.

This place puts its reputation (it's in the name!) on its music shows. The hostess, sorry I didn't get her name, talked about the history of the grille, which was celebrating its fourth birthday when we were there. The whole vibe was cool, fun, musical. Loved it.

The food was good too! We had sliders, the chicken curry dish, lovely drinks and some celebratory birthday cake (lemony and yummy). The waitstaff each time we were there was so nice, though I have to say the hostess who did the seating (not the lady who spoke from the stage) had something of a 'tude. She was put off by my displeasure about the seating on the Wednesday night, where she sat us in back where we had no view of Cyril. But the waiter, wish I could remember his name, kept an eye out on a better table for us, and moved us over as soon as a spot became available. Turns out we could have camped out at the poolside of the grille, and just relaxed on the chaise lounges, which seemed to be the spot people waited for tables. It was lovely listening to Cyril playing after we left our table.

The restaurant is located at the Outrigger Reef hotel. Don't forget to get out to the beach area on Friday nights and watch the fireworks show. That happens around 7:45; check listings for correct time. Fun!!

“Enjoy the Hawaiian Band”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Go there in the afternoon (3-5 pm) for the happy hour and pay $3.50 for the local beer. Stay or come back at 6:00 pm for dinner and enjoy the daily Hawaiian live music (until 9:00). Good food selection at reasonable prices. The entertainment makes good for the lack of view (next to the hotel pool and lobby). Friendly service. If you just want to listen to the music without consuming anything you may as well sit in the lobby right in the back of the band.
