Owner description: In front of the Aliiolani Hale building is the King Kamehameha I Statue. Facing Iolani Palace on the corner of King and Mililani streets, this landmark depiction of the warrior king who united the Hawaiian Islands emits a sense of strength and unity as he stands with outstretched arms.

The statue of the King is quite spectacular, unfortunately it was not dressed with leis when we went to see it but was fantastic to see and photograph.

One of the best places we visited in Honolulu. Definitely go into the building and meander around the first floor. An amazing history of Hawaii...

Seeing the King Kamehameha statue is must on a walking tour of the downtown/Chinatown area and on your way to see the Iolani Palace and perhaps the Mission Houses museum. But be aware: the statue is not as large as you expect it to be if you've only seen it in photos. (It's kind of like seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre - while you expect it to be larger than life, it's only 31 x 21 inches.) It's still a striking work of art, though. On KIng Kamehameha's Birthday (June 11-a state holiday the statue gets draped in thousands of colorful leis.

Hubby and I wanted to walk off allot of over eating so we were staying at Hilton Hawaiian village and walked the 3 kilometres or so to the historical precinct. I am glad we did!
Beautiful area starts with the statue of the great king in front of the Judiciary building. You must get a photo here. Have a browse at the Kawaiahao church.
The Iolani Palace is a must! Don't miss it! Stunning in all it's grandeur! There is a free movie that runs all day in the ticket office. It gives a great account of the history of the palace.
We had time to admire the architecture of the new government buildings and then we headed back to hotel. A lovely morning - one of the best spent on this gorgeous island :)

OK We love Hawaii and Hawaiian history my son was born on the Islands and loved learning about Hawaiian history but even if you are not that into Hawaiian history this is a must see everyone should come back with a picture of them and this statue I think it is one of the things all visitors do just might not make the normal visit list only takes a minute as well and there is plenty of parking near by as long as you do not visit this area during peak times we came on a weekday during the morning and we were able to park right next to the statue.
