i stay with my family for 4 nights, i'm really enjoy the stay, from the arrivel (they upgrade our room to keep our family in the same floor:), and the gold key reception boy(name's marc) help us find the shuttle bus to the pearl harbour,.

i spend 2 afternoon and sunset pool, the view, the service is really fantastic, and you can find a cute shop nearby.

no wonder they also have one of the best japanese restaurant in the town, well you have to book it in advance.

the location is great, bit far from waikiki beach, but still walking distance, and i like the beach park next to our hotel, bigger and less people than waikiki.

i'll come back for sure.

Room Tip: sea view definitly.

What an amazing hotel. We were so impressed with the staff, the decor, the atmosphere and everything else! Coming back to the hotel after a day out at the beach or the shops, felt like coming home. You will not regret staying at the modern. We can't wait to come back.

You MUST stay at this hotel if you go to Waikiki. It is a modern sort if mins lost hotel, but the rooms are amazing and very spacious.

There is not the 'tacky' Hawian attempt at authenticity that you see with many older hotels along the main strip.

Their service was outstanding and there were staff everywhere when you needed them.

There are 2 pools and enough de k chairs, lounges and beds for everyone. They also seat you at your own deck chair and lay out your towl for you.

We were even treated to champagne cocktails in our room for the turn down service on our first night.

You also have to try the Morimitto restaurant there. It is the one from the Iron Chef and it was one if the best meals we have ever had.

My husband and I spent the first part of our honeymoon at The Modern. We didn't want to stay at a typical resort (where there would be lots of family) or a honeymoon resort, where it would be very luvy-duby. The Modern was an almost adult-only, young professionals crowd. It's a boutique hotel and it has all the amenities that you would like, such as a pool, free wifi, great views of the harbor, etc. Our room had a partial ocean view and it was great to see the harbor. We dined at the wonderful Morimorito restaurant (amazing!).
On our first day, we arrived at 7am but our room was ready and we were able to check-in, relax, and get settled before we started our day.
On our last day, our plane didn't leave till 10pm but we still checked out at 1pm, stored our luggage at the hotel and hang out at the pool for the day. We were also able to use the guest showers at the Spa and that's a great perk for spending our last day at Honolulu.

Five stars for service, one star for potential mistreatment of hotel workers...

We just returned from four wonderful nights in an Ocean Front suite at The Modern Honolulu. Everything about the experience was marvelous... especially the service we encountered at the hotel which was exceptional from the bellmen to the front desk staff, from the concierge, to the bar and restaurant servers all the way to the housekeeping department.

Sadly, on Saturday afternoon (3/9/13) while sitting by the pool, I suddenly found myself in the midst of a labor dispute between what I thought was the housekeeping department and the management of the hotel when about two dozen housekeepers and their children surrounded the pool with picket signs and megaphones. They delivered an impassioned speech about their lack of a living wage contract and it turns out, after asking several of the staff, I came to discover, that not only are the housekeepers working without a contract, but also the ENTIRE staff of the hotel has been without a contract since the Modern changed ownership a few years ago.

I do not have enough facts to choose a side in this dispute, however, as a lifelong union member, I cannot endorse a hotel where the workers have so publicly and courageously aired their grievances. Until the management and workers settle their dispute, I feel that staying here would be akin to crossing a picket line and therefore cannot recommend this hotel and I urge anyone who is a member of a union, is related to a member of a union or who has a conscience to avoid staying at this hotel until both sides resolve their differences. Hopefully this will happen soon because while this is a lovely property, it is the staff that makes it shine. I look forward to hearing that both sides have come to an agreement at which time I will happily recommend this hotel to anyone.
