The Modern Honolulu
Ranked #7 of 84 Hotels in Honolulu
Certificate of Excellence

This hotel was very well situated along the harbour front near the Hilton Hawaiian. We were able to walk along the whole beach area from the hotel to the Honolulu Zoo! The hotel is a little pricey but service is excellent in all areas, and worth it, if you are interested in a pampered holiday setting. Also it is near a variety of resturants - the little Harbour Pub and Grill on the corner was a gem! The in-house Moromito resturant was excellent! The Outback and Red Lobster are near as well as Starbucks at the Hilton Hawaiian. Yes, bathrooms have shutters - need more privacy.

Room Tip: Ask for a partial oceanview overlooking the pool areas - very good sun morning and evening.

The hotel is very clean and sophisticated. The towels are unbelievably fluffy and the rooms are well maintained and super fresh. The managerial staff is outstanding- namely Aaron, Nic and Ricardo. They exercise passion in their mission to achieve happy customers and they are so compassionate, friendly and helpful. They made the difference in our stay; always wanting to ensure that everyone is comfortable. I will always book with this hotel when I visit Honolulu.

In a busy area in Honolulu so obviously you will hear some street noise. The rooms are impeccably clean. Very close to the beach. The only strange thing is that there are shutters from the bathroom to the bedroom. They don't shut completely so there is no privacy there. Still. Great location.

Well situated between Ala Moana and Waikiki. Accessible to the beach by a walkway. Valet parking $28/day!! In and out privileged allowed, tho. Up-scaled rooms were clean and well maintained. Ukelele in room was enjoyed by toddler. Pools-general and adults only, were enjoyable. Service was great. Morimoto's is situated in the hotel.

We enjoyed our stay here immensely. The staff were excellent! Very friendly and efficient! I'm glad we picked this hotel as it is far enough away from the super busy kalakaua avenue shopping haven, but not too far that you can't walk there. Tons of restaurants within walking distance and about 10-min walk from Ala Moana shopping center. It's also very close to the famous Waikiki beach. We stayed in a one-bedroom ocean view suite just because we have 2 kids (ages 9 & 10) and needed the extra space. It worked perfectly for us. The oversized couch in the sitting area works well as a day bed for them. We also had a great view of the pier and lagoon (Duke Kahanamoku lagoon)/ocean. We had 2 balconies to enjoy the great views from. If we're ever in Honolulu again, we'll definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Book the suite to get the extra space if possible go for ocean views.

The Modern was a wonderful experience. We were there only for 24 hours however they were well spent. Great views of the marina and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset before our dinner. The pool was warm and had speakers under the water which was unexpected. Excellent room - we were upgraded to a corner suite. Would recommend to anyone traveling for business or pleasure. Service in Morimotos was exceptional.

He hotel was relatively easy to find located on the west side of the Waikiki strip. With the hotel being on the edge of the strip it was perfect for being able to leave the city for the day. Decor is minimalist and understated. Staff were relatively friendly and very helpful. The room was very nice, we had a partial ocean view room with a balcony which was nice for watching the sunset and drying out our beach towels. There was valet parking available for $28 or $20 per day if you parked yourself in the parade across the street. Rooms were very clean and had everything you could want including a fridge. Only unconvienent thing was that if you wanted ice, you had to call the front desk for them to bring it to you.

Iron chef Morimoto has a restaurant in this hotel which we ate at twice during our stay. It was impeccable and delicious. A must if you are visiting the Honolulu area.

We ate at the sunrise bar one morning for breakfast and it was delicious.

Had drinks one afternoon at the sunset bar and it was very nice. Relaxing music, nice chairs with an ankle deep pool and good drink selection.

Would return to this hotel in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone!
