“Absolutely Wonderful Stay!”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

It is tucked a little away but it is absolutely beautiful. It was the best hotel that we ever stayed at. It had the view of the harbor and ocean. Two pools, bars by the pools and patios. Walk right to the other hotels and restraurants. When you walk in they call you by name. You turn on your flat screen tv and it welcomes you by name. We called and asked where the ice machine was and they told us that have someone assigned to our floor and within seconds someone was there to fill the ice or anything else we needed. They all were so nice and ready to help with any information needed. We wished we would have forgotten our cruise and stayed there the entire time. It was the best hotel we ever stayed at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With they had other hotels in other cities. We would definitely go to this hotel again!!

Room Tip: They will see you get the best room. They were all so nice.

The Modern is great for people who don't need or want the heavy tourist scene of Kalakaua. You can walk to the crowds or take the trolley. This is a serene, cool and clean property with minimalist design. The pool area is modern and geometric rather than fake jungle. The staff treat guests really well; the pool is open to all guests, regardless of background, so no fake hollywood scene here. In other words, OK for regular people.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing the ocean, as everyone says. 16th floor was excellent with the only nois...

This hotel is just far enough away from the hussle and bussle of Waikiki to offer a peaceful retreat but still within walking distance to all that Waikiki has to offer. Rooms have a fresh and modern decor with great large bathrooms, a refreshing change from the pastel print, white cane furnishings that still haunt many a Hawaiian hotel,
The pool area is fantastic and features an adults only upper pool area if you want some time out. Although the hotel was full during our stay, the pool never felt overcrowded and there was no problem finding space to relax. There was a noted absence of the early morning grab a seat at the pool frenzy that often occurs at hotels with less space. Could easily spend all day sipping cocktails by the pool, in fact we did for two days ina row. Staff friendly and polite.

Room Tip: Rooms above nightclub can be noisy over weekend when it operates until around 3am

I had never been to Hawaii, and did not know what to expect. Even though my flight was delayed and I arrived very very early the next morning. The hotel had our room ready (there was a little struggle as the girl working was VERY new, but someone came out and helped her). The rooms are gorgeous, very modern. I also had a balcony overlooking the docks, pools, and the ocean. I spendt some time down at the pool, laying out and having drinks and it was great. I highly recommend the frozen mint pina colada. The staff was always friendly and professional, and always made us feel welcome. I also really enjoyed the location, it's not right on the beach, but there is a sidewalk that will take you right down. This is a hip place, and great if you are not wanting to be surrounded by families with small children. It's close enough to everything, but still a nice distance away.

Room Tip: Take the view over size, nothing is better than a Hawaiian view.

Really impressed with hotel. Staff are efficient, helpful and friendly, particularly the 'customer experience' people. Checkin was pleasant and hassle free. Welcome drink and wet towels on arrival were a nice touch. Our room was spacious, well furnished, and stylish in a minimalist way. Location is quiet so good night sleep guaranteed but it is a bit of a walk to the beach. On a hot day sometimes it's a bit of a slog to get to beach. However, the hotel is not in centre of Waikiki so no crowds which is a bonus.
The only thing to make this hotel better is for them to offer a pillow menu. Pillows in room are too soft.

Really enjoyed our stay here, did not expect much from when we arrived as I couldn't even see if we were in the right place. Service throughout was great, location is great too as you are near to waikiki but still far enough to feel like you are away from it all a bit. We went to loads of bars in Waikiki and can hands down say that the best one was our hotel bar by the pool. Room was very nice as was the view, had a massage here too which I can recommend. Breakfast was awesome.

Positives: Location, pools, gym, breakfast, most things really
Negatives: Closed off upper pool for private event meaning there were not enough sun beds in downstairs pool which was a bit annoying.

Would recommend this hotel to people of all ages and looking for quiet or hectic time there, you can have it all

Recently stayed here for 2 weeks, highly recommend this hotel, staff always very polite, helpful and friendly. The one-bedroom suite was excellent with stunning views of the sea and yacht club and Friday night fireworks. We found the whole hotel a lovely relaxing place with contemporary decor, hence the name the modern, it was also a very short walk from the overcrowded and hectic Waikiki beach. I don't understand the negative reviews, I can only assume there from whining Americans (I'm English) We had an excellant holiday made all the better due to The Modern

Room Tip: ocean veiw onebedroom suite
