“Downtown Oasis”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

The window at the back of the church makes it worth taking the time to visit this cathedral. A security person was patrolling outside, so we felt safe. Unlike many other places we visited downtown, the grounds were free of litter. Can't complain about the coast of this attraction (free).

“Beautiful space”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

This is a beautiful colonial cathedral in downtown Honolulu . Judging by the hordes of people NOT there i imagine many people might miss its simple majesty.
Some brilliant colonial stained glass, the worship space is light and airy, and there are fans (manual ) provided in the pews.
I happen to be a priest, so these positives delight me. Its emptiness saddens me. But that has a lot to do with the Honolulu-Waikiki , most people are not here to look at cathedrals and art!!
There are two stunning pieces de resistance. The great western window, is a fine example of the blend of lead light and stained glass
And outside the copper sculpted fountain which is probably Jesus , but could be St Andrew , is just lovely

“Breathtaking architecture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

it will take you 5 minutes to view and it's FREE. A short 5 minute walk away from Iolani Palace makes it worthwhile. Across from the palace is the Kamehameha Statue. Nearby is Kawaiahao Church and Honolulu Mission House. Be careful crossing the busy main streets of the Honolulu business district! Take pics! Catch your breath at the main Library before boarding TheBus to your hotel in Waikiki

“Hallowed grounds for weddings.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

Many Japanese couples and their families have had weddings here. The place is a good destination, in the heart of downtown Honolulu, and the staff speaks Japanese. It is within walking distance of the State Capitol building, and next door to the Governor's mansion and across the street from the State Museum of Art. You won't have time to do any sightseeing during the wedding, but the perfect wedding can be yours in this setting.

“You can see nice performances here!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

It's quiet & beautiful. A corale club from Hawaii Pacific University sometimes held free performances here. I had attended a music performance before and it was nice.
