Although off the usual tourist path, a visit to Queen Emma's Summer Palace is worth the extra effort. It is literally a small house rather than the Palace you expect, but the collection of artifacts and the knowledge of the docents is amazinig. It feels as if the Queen still lives there. It is still a home rather than a museum. It is now on my "must visit every trip" list!

Interesting and well maintained house and grounds. No photography inside. Docent explanations on each room were interesting

This was a very special place to visit, because our guide spoke about the Queem and the Palace with such passion it really touched me. I was entranced with each item that she described, which is special because usually I am very easily bored or distracted. Also, there is a piece of furniture in the last room that is the most amazing woodworking I have ever seen in my entire life. The gifts in the gift shop were beautiful. I feel it was a bargain. Very glad we went. Thought it was far from Honolulu but it wasn't.

This small but well furnished summer retreat holds a lot of hawaiian history. It is full of original furnishing and historical information. Unlike the main palace, photographs are not allowed here so I can't share pictures of the many pieces in the house. Among the very interesting pieces are Queen Emma's piano from ermany, Prince Albert Edward's original cradle, Queen Emma's sleigh bed and a very unusual procelain bathtub from China. If you visit the main palace, I recommend you complete the story and visit the summer palace.

this palace has more original furniture and items than the main palace and thus gives you a look into the style and life of Queen Emma. It's not huge, but if you want to know more about the history of Hawaii check it out.
