My son, wife and I dove four days with Reef Pirates in August '12. On two days we did a 'private charter' and had great experiences. On the two other days we had totals of 5 people (one guide) and 7 (two guides). These dives were uneventful. The guides were informative and the boat clean and well maintained.
We would have given an excellent except for two events. First, there was some confusion about 'protocol' when diving nitrox. We are still fairly new divers (about 25 dives each) and we were ridiculed for trying to faithfully follow the nitrox protocol we had been taught. Bottom line, Reef Pirates seems pretty cavalier about nitrox safety. As you were taught: trust your own testing.... and, unfortunately, bring your own meter just in case.
Our second event was when we lost track of the guide half way through a dive. We still had our buddies so we didn't abort the dive but it was disconcerting. Again, we are new to the sport and get nervous when anyone (even a guide) is diving alone. Needless stress.
We are still learning what to expect in the sport but, bottom line, we had good dives.
