Really the best Hawai`ian music we could find in Waikiki. Royal Hawai`ian and Halekalani are a bit down right now, both in food and music.

Like the food, the ambience, closest to the real Hawai`i in Waikiki.

Coming here for dinner, you EXPECT to be ripped off. Waikiki is not the cheapest beachfront in the world, especially after being "rebranded" to appeal to wealthy Japanese tourists - Kalakaua Avenue now being flanked by Rodeo Drive shops like Gucci and Fendi and so on. And, this IS the Moana Hotel, one of the three original "Grande Dame" hotels of Waikiki, a swanky address if ever there was one. All that being said, HOLY CR@P! The Beachhouse at the Moana Surfrider may just be the most egregiously overpriced restaurant in Hawaii! My dinner consisted of a steak, and a beer. No veggies. No salad. In fact, no sides of any kind - unless you count the thimble full of Bernaise sauce that cost me $3 extra. So, a Rib Eye steak, and a Chimay Ale. $98.42. I am not making it up. A hundred bucks for a so-so steak, and a Belgian beer. Now, I could have had a side Caesar salad, but $17 for some Romaine leaf seemed a bit steep. I might have had some potatoes or some mac-and-cheese, although, again, $11 for a side of spuds seemed a bit over the top. So a hundred bucks - before tip - for a stringy Rib Eye steak that was not the best cut, and a beer. Now, I know, if I wanted "quality" I could have sprung for the Australian Wagyu steak, which would have driven the cost of a no-frills, no-sides, steak and beer to $128 before tip. Call me crazy, but I don't think so. Yes, the Moana is a hotel that every person should experience once in their lifetime. And, yes, the stately lanai surroundings, crashing surf, and live Hawaiian music under the Banyan tree are sublime. But average steakhouse food at prices that would bankrupt the Sultan of Brunei seems almost pornographic. I don't know how anyone can enjoy food that they've so grievously overpaid for. Don't do it.

This restaurant was magnificant, Service was great, food was awesome and the view is beautiful. It is a bit pricey $$$$, but it is top Quality and you get what you pay for. We went for my 50th birthday and we knew it was expensive and were well prepared, It was probably the best birthday dinner that I have ever had. No complaints about this restaurant.

"Hi guys", "are you folks ready?" is what you expect if you go to the downtown average restaurant, but this is how we were welcomed at the Beachhouse.
Given the price, I am waiting for something else, like "sir"; and for the wine to be served before the main dish, not during.
The manager has got a serious job to do with the team in order to macth the level of the cook, which provides otherwise good/very good food and wine.
Won't go back there before long.

this restaurant is in the Moana Surfrider located on the verandah - a beautiful setting overlooking their famous Banyan tree. The service was great and food delicious. It's not cheap but worth the splurge for a special meal
