“Will stay here again”

We have used this hotel twice now with our family. The size is nice for the a family of 5. The kitchenette is nice, we can make breakfast in the room, pack a lunch to take with us, Parking is reasonable which is a big deal. The front desk is very kind and helpful, even when you are renting from Jackie or one of the other private condo's in the building. The wireless internet was fast and free, that was wonderful as we uploaded pictures of our trip as we were there!
The 'futons' were a little misleading as they were really just large cushions but the boys didnt mind sleeping on them and since we barely spent any time in the room anyway, it was a small thing and they all slept well on the large cushions/futons.
Very good for a family with younger children. They provided boogie boards which the boys used, and bamboo beach mats, we left behind the extra ones we bought while we were there.
You are only 5 minute walk to the beach, and one of the nicest biggest ABC stores is just one block over and down ... you can shop for your daily supplies and leave the next day so easily. The zoo is only a couple of blocks away,. it is within very easy access to the highway to drive out towards Haunauma Bay, Sandy Beach, Sealife Park and all the other attractions outside of the city.
Shopping Centers are nearby within easy walking distance.
Overall, if you are looking for a clean, safe place to sleep while enjoying the island, we would and do recommend this place!

Room Tip: shop online at vacation rental by owners website for great rates from private vendors in the buildin...

I completely agree with sr424554! The VRI manager, JD Upchurch is exactly as explained! One very rude hot head! When we refused to write down our credit card number for his records, he became very upset and refused to admit us to our scheduled pre-reserved room, until we gave him the number! I picked up the "rooms report card" as we left and advised the VRI firm in Utah of his foul behavior but heard nothing back! What does that say for VRI? Make no mistake, there are some exceptionally beautiful units in that resort complex that you can rent from wondeful private owners through VRBO and not have to deal with JD at all! The resort is a very nice but with small one bedroom units but perfect for a couple and close to the Zoo, beach, and not far from Safeway and Walmart! We will defintely return but will be dropping our membership with VRI! Thank JD for that VRI! (Vacation Resorts International)

Room Tip: Visit the VRBO website and read the reviews written from previous guests! Some of those privietly ow...

We stayed in Waikiki Banyan which is right across the Marriott Hotel. Airport tranfers cost about $45-$55 dollars. 5 minutes walk and you are already at the beach with the whole stretch of shop which we really enjoyed it so much. It's very safe should you wish to stay up late and stroll around. A Catholic church is within walking distance. There are a lot of restaurant. Going around won't be a problem. You can take the tram-like bus just across the street, even the majority of the Tour buses. (Hilo Hattie) a shop for souvenirs offer a free tram ride which is a plus cause you can even get off at (Ala Moana)- a Huge Department Store. A lot of ABC convenience store which is almost every corner.

Upon check in, Staffs are very friendly and they assisted us immediately. They gave us map and indicate all the must-see place. However, if you arrive early your room won't be ready until 3pm. Should you wish to check in early, additional payment of $60 would be charge. A $10 per nite charge for wired internet and DVD rental. Room is average in size altough it's clean but needed an update. If you wish to cook, kitchen equipments are available and they provide coffee everyday. There is a convinience store near the elevator lobby where you can buy what you need. A coffee shop is also beside the elevator. We like their pool and heated jacuzzi which is located on the 6th floor. It is just a little inconvinient if you need towels cause yo have to get it from the 5th floor. You can Barbecue, near the pool side with a very minimal fee . Since the pool and Barbecue is at the 6th floor, it is better to get a room on higher floors since some guests tend to be noisy. Rooms are cleaned daily, Linen change every 3 days. Need to get a key from the reception if you will use the lobby restroom. Overall we did enjoy our stay.

We just returned from a stay from Dec. 3-10, 2011. We rented through Jackie of Hawaiian Vacation Condos (she owns 6 units) and we were very pleased with the service she provided and with everything provided in the unit. We stayed in unit 3401 which was very well updated and clean, with a magnificiant view of Black Diamond and the ocean.
The overall building is however dated, although the lobby looks quite nice. We were very disapointed that the kids playground was not available while we were there (it was taken down completely - reason for my rating of the Kids Activities). Also, it would be extra nice if they had a toddler pool, since they rate themselves as family-friendly, yet little ones have to swim in the big pool.
The staff at the front desk was very polite when we asked them questions and so were the parking attendants.
The location is perfect. It's close to the beach and the buzz of Waikiki, yet it is quiet. We were quite high on the 34th floor, so may be it is noisier on lower floors. We did hear sirens quite often though, but I guess that's not the Banyan location but Waikiki and Honolulu overall.
I would definately stay there again and deal with Jackie again.

We were a family of three travelling (2 adults + 1 pre-teen). We booked our condo through CIMY Hawaii. The photos always make a place look better online than it turns out to be (the posted pictures said "typical room" and looked nicer than our actual room). The condo was average and overall quite clean. It's a bit frustrating when the guests that stayed there prior to you do a half *** job at washing the dishes, so it would be nice if their cleaning people had a look and rewashed what was poorly done. Other than that it was clean. Our condo was in tower one on the 30th floor facing the ocean and Diamond Head which was quite nice. We found the beds quite uncomfortable and the bedding quite cheap (only used a top sheet to wrap around the matress) and should be updated. You also have a lanai (balcony) which is fantastic. The room has an air-conditioner that worked great. Previous guests had obviously graffitied the cushioned stools around the small round kitchen table as the cleaners were unsuccessful getting rid of it. We were also disappointed to find out there was no WiFi in the Banyan but we were able to rent a modem from CIMY for $40 and pay a late check out fee of $50 as our flight did not leave until 10 pm on our check out day (we were releived they could do this for us). We negotiated our room to include a free parking pass for our stay, otherwise it is quite expensive to park in their parkade (we rented a car for part of our trip). They also included (was a special promotion, otherwise a $50 mid-week cleaning fee) a maid to come in once during our stay to clean the room, so no daily cleaning service. Also, the day we arrived we found a notice stuck to our door asking for permission to come in and fumigate the next morning from the Banyan managers (a routine fumigation), we called the next morning requesting this be done after we leave. Who wants fumigators coming in on your holiday spraying the place, they could work that out with the rental company for days it is not rented...SHēSH. Ok, although most of this review sounds a bit negative, it really was an average unit and the price was right. We may stay there again, but we will most likely try another unit in the Banyan. I know a couple of people that have stayed in the Banyan before and have always enjoyed their stay but they booked through other companies with nicer units. The recreation area is nice with an average pool and two hot tubs, one of which is set way to hot (which is indicated on the sign as being the "hotter" tub) but we never saw anyone use it while there. Instead everyone would try to squish into the one hot tub, however, on the flip-side you end up meeting and talking with other travelers. There's a bbq area, tennis courts, and a kids play area (taped off the whole time we were there). The lobby area is quite nice with a KOI pond. The location is great. You are one block from the beaches and the main strip with lots of shopping. Don't forget to check out the Swap meet at the Aloha Stadium, lots of deals and bargaining is a must.

Room Tip: "Do your research. The Banyan is occupied by owners, rented out by independent rental companies...

I live in Honolulu. During APEC I had to find lodging for some relatives coming to town. Not much was available so I booked the Waikiki Banyan. Simple advice....don;'t do it.

The place saw it's best days in the 80s. Everything about this place is run down and poorly managed. The "condo" looked like 1973 was the last time anything was done to the room.
Outlets didn't work, carpet filthy, doors separating the "one bedroom" broken. Beds old and smelly. Waited two days to get clean towels from the "office." There are at least two companies renting out of the Banyan....Aston and Koko. Oh, the pool? Small with at least 12 kids under 4 years of age screaming all day. Don't do it....go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.

To all reading this thread, BEWARE of Hawaiian Sun Holidays and Sweetwater at the Banyan. The Manager (J D) is Rude, Crass and Unprofessional. The rooms are old, dirty and not kept up very well. It also appears that Hawaiian Sun Holidays and the Banyan (2
Different Time Share Management Companies in the same building) are at war with each other. Banyan treats Hawaiian Sun Holidays "Guests" like second class citizens. Towel exchange day was ridiculous. You have to "DRAG" all your Towels, Sheets, Blankets, etc through the building to a Management Office on the 4th floor of another building. STAY AWAY !!!!
