Nice buildings and gardens, and very good collections. I forgot about lunch but was able to get into restaurant with minimal wait; surprisingly good food for a museum. Best ham sandwich I've had in a long time. Loved the Heath Ceramics china. Very educational galleries, so you can spend some time learning about different regions of the Pacific.

Our main intent was to go to Doris Duke's Shangri La and this was very interesting (you will need advance reservations). But the bus to Shangri La takes off from the Museum so we had lunch there and it was very good food served in a charming courtyard. Very nice permanent exhibitions as well as a Georgia O'Keefe/Ansel Adams exhibit. Definitely worth a visit!

I'm a member of the museum and love attending their monthly ARTafterDARK. It's always a great theme, the food is incredible. Everyone looks fabulous, the music is excellent and the art is exceptional. The interactive art projects are fun and they always have live artist presentations which are incredibly amazing to watch. Admission is free for Museum members and $10 for non-members.

The lunch alone (make reservations) is worth the trip. They are on the bus route (20 minutes from Waikiki). It is a wonderful museum full of treasures and cool courtyards. If you plan ahead, they will take you to Doris Duke's stunning home, Shangri La. Book your tour for the morning, your lunch for 1pm, and spend the afternoon in the museum. Yes, absolutely yes.

My favourites were the Asian and Pacific sections, particularly the Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indonesian and Indian galleries. Each of the five different courtyards was very charming and the layout of the building in general interesting and appealing. The temporary exhibit about the recovery of china from the Dutch East India Company shipwreck was impressive.
