I liked being able to view the various selections of art. Although it is not a large museum it has a good variety. When done touring the galleries, I like eating at their restaurant.

Had to run through the museum due to short visit but what I saw was well displayed. The contemporary art was mostly mainland American, but different from what you see in mainstream American museums. It was a good selection of paintings and sculpture and had a number of well known local artists' work as well.

I was on the way to Straub Hospital to visit my grandmother when the city bus dropped us right in front the Museum. I was not planning on going in but decided to walk in and look. I was pleased on the admission price for myself and kids and decided to go in. We were captivated with the Art in the Museum. It was very updated and clean. The descriptions and information on the paintings or sculptures were very informative.

The HMA is a real gem in the heart of Honolulu. It has a very good collection of both Eastern and Western art. The pieces are thoughtfully and succinctly labeled. The museum courtyards are lovely. The museum cafe has really delicious salad and other yummy food. The gift shop has many wonderful books and gift items, including beautiful hand made jewelry. One can spend 2, 3 hours there enjoying this small but exquisite museum!

Liked: Friendly welcome, atmosphere, portrait collection, the modernism and impressionist collections, the special Samurai Lethal Beauty exhibit...to me the HMA is a jewel of a museum. Anyone who loves art and the experience of art and is in Honolulu 'should' visit...A wonderful experience, the HMA.
Highly recommend.
