“Wonderful museum with an Asian/Pacific focus”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

The Academy Ats is a small museum by some standards but what it lacks in size it makes up for in a wealth of objects and art from around the Pacific Basin. Rotating special exhibits and shows; the Mitchener collection of Japanese wood block prints (ukioye) is superb.

“Quite a Surprise!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

I ended up really enjoying my visit. They're doing a great job mixing up the type of exhibits they offer. I went mainly for their tattoo exhibit, then found myself enthralled with the paintings of Hawaii in the local exhibit. I continued on through many of their other exhibits and really just enjoyed what they had to offer. Many museums feel like they have sections of stuff that are there really to just fill up space. I didn't see anything like that here and I left quite impressed!

“Excellent Museum”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

In Beretania Street, easy access by Trolley Bus (stop right outside) or parking opposite. $10 adult admission and open between 10-4.30 Tues-Sat, 1-5 Sunday. Bags and ruck sacs cannot be taken into the museum but they do offer free lockers in the entrance hall. Café and shop on site. Museum is situate around a courtyard with grass, ponds etc. Excellent Chinese/Japanese and Hawaiian arts displayed. We visited primarily to see the special exhibition on tattoos called “Tattoo Honolulu” which runs till January 2013. It was excellent.

Beautiful museum and nice temporary exhibits; staff very helpful. They informed us of the Farmer's Market across the street and bus information.
