“A Downtown Gem”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

Earlier this year I finally discovered the Honolulu Museum of Art. The museum comprises a number of builidings and quiet courtyards. See Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings from her 1939 visit to the Islands. Awesome gallery of Impressionist paintings. Enjoy a lovely lunch at the Cafe. The iced tea is tops. Reservations for lunch are recommended. The museum also offers limited tours to Doris Duke's Shangri La home near Diamond Head. Advance reservations are required.

“Excellent exhibits”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

There was an exhibit on tattoos and that was quite fascinating. The museum has a great feature on Asian art and very enlightening.

“Nice relaxing place to go to after work”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

After my friend was done at work here in busy downtown, she took us to look at the latest collection of pieces here. She is an art lover. She works in a gallery here in Honolulu. After we perused the academy we enjoyed a picnic at the park across the street. Nice winding down!

“Nice collection”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

I was greeted by a docent after I entered the museum; she gave me a guided tour of the Asian art and then a brief orientation of the rest of the holdings. I spent the afternoon wandering and particular enjoyed the Hawaiian art exhibit. (Sadly, I was the only person in it! Please make sure to stop in when you go.) The museum is a bit of a labyrinth, so keep the map handy.

“Wonderful collection in the most beautiful building in Honolulu”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

This is a gem in Honolulu, for tourists and residents alike. The Asia Pacific collection is superb. The featured exhibits are innovative. The setting is wonderful. Truly, the most beautiful building in Honolulu! The floral arrangements throughout the building are stunning. The cafe is a great place for lunch. The gift shop is full of nice little finds. I always shop there for gifts and it is wonderful because the buyer for the store has pre-selected the array through his/her aesthetic vision. The new director is bringing in innovative concepts to draw a wider audience and he is succeeding! I recommend this highly.
