Owner description: Iolani Palace, the official residence of Hawaii's monarchy, is a marvel of opulence, innovation and political intrigue. Meticulously restored to its former grandeur, this National Historic Landmark in downtown Honolulu tells of a time when their Majesties, King Kalakaua, who built the palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Liliuokalani, walked its celebrated halls. Today, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular living restorations in all of Polynesia and immerse yourself in Hawaii's royal heritage. E komo mai! Welcome!

“Must see”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

This is a must see for all. I could go here every time we come. Beautiful grounds, the wood interiors and the museum and history are not to be missed. The Hawaiian Monarchs visited and imported beautiful things from England and had electricity in the palace before the United States White House did..little known fact.

“A must if you are interested in history”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Each year the museum gets better as more of it's story and the story of the Hawaiian monarch period is told. You pace your self for an hour or afternoon. You will appreciate all things Hawaiian even more after this visit.

“A must-see”

A great trip through history. Such a beautifully tended space, treated with much respect. We participated in a docent-lead tour. She was informative, engaging and an utter joy. Thanks to all who worked to preserve this treasure.

“Great History Lesson”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

My husband and I did the audio tour. Groups enter the building at specific times, so it is never too crowded. The audio guide was very well done and easy to follow as it guided you from room to room and took you back through history. We found it very interesting and learned a lot.

To preserve what is inside, booties are given to wear over your shoes, no backpacks are allowed, and although photographs are allowed, there is a no flash policy.
