My husband and I loved seeing the palace and learning more about the royal family. The exhibits and docents were very well done.

The guided tour of the palace was very informative and tragic. The history of the Kings and the final Queen is something you will never forget. Beautifully restored palace.

Iolani Palace is a must see while on Oahu. Imagine the island in 1870 and back into time when Hawaii was a kingdom. Pay the extra for docent led tour. Well worth the money. Amazing history and beautiful artifacts.

Our visit to Iolani Palace was such a surprising delight! Our docent was most knowledgeable and made our group feel as if we were visitors to the King. How exciting! After the tour we were surprised and so thrilled to hear the State Hawaiinan Band who gives a concert once a month on the grounds. They were amazing! Thank you, Hawaii, for a fantastic vacation! Various European Nations colonized and dominated areas in Africa, South America and Asia. The United States was no different. The Kingdom of Hawaii was an exceedingly advanced society (more advanced than Great Britain and the United States at the time), but the kingdom was overthrown by American Businesses at the turn of the century. Sugar Cane, Pineapple and other agricultural products were just too lucrative to not exploit. You are likely to be embarrassed and saddened by how the kingdom was overthrown. Beautiful, technologically advanced palace-- telephones, indoor plumbing and electric lights were used prior to the U. S. Capitol and British Parliament.

Fantastic docent and informative experience. The length of tour is perfect between 1- 1.5 hours. We were there for the 11 am tour which was the last tour of the day. I highly recommend the docent led tour!

This is a beautiful palace. The woodwork, doors and door casings are stunning!
The forward thinking including, lighting running water , baths, toilets are unbelievable for its time.
It is a sad history of the Hawaiian culture however the Hawaiians are a proud people who keep their culture alive.
Worth the visit

8 of us took the guided tour, well worth the extra cost. Our docent knew everything about the palace and provided background info on the Kingdom.

This was a great self guided tour. Lots to learn here. Small kids might become inpatient. If you make this place and the bishop museum as you Hawai’i culture day you will get it all

You can tour the palace but it’s hard to get tickets. We didn’t tour, but stopped there for pictures. The Kings palace is across the street and the only church that still has services in Hawaiian is close by. The church was built in the 1800’s of coral.
