Owner description: The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

What's not to like about this Cemetary. Military are buried there. It's an honor to see it in its splendor, the vastness of this Cemetary and the view is to die for. Senator Daniel K. Inouye is buried here.

A very inspiring visit, especially if you have friends or relatives buried there. A great number of famous people buried here. The staff there are very helpful. As a bonus the view is spectacular.

My father (a WW II vet), and mother, uncle (also a WWII vet) and many family friends have been laid to rest here, so I come frequently to pay my respects and bring flowers. It is a lovely, well-cared for site with a beautiful view of the city and a peaceful aura.

Make sure you spend some time and walk up to the memorial...do not just do a "drive thru." A BIG thank you to all those who gave their service (and lives) to protect the freedom of our country.

This was worth seeing. There is also a great view of the city and Diamond Head. Getting there is a little difficult because of the winding roads though.
