Owner description: The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

Visit on your own, as buses aren't allowed to stop. Very moving. Great view of Honolulu. Remember, this is a cemetery.

“A Place of Honor”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific is a first class repository and tribute for those that have served in our armed forces. It's not Arlington...and I've been there but it is the best that we have in the Pacific. Plan sufficient time to view and read the various conflict murals.

“An often forgotten must see on Oahu”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

This is a wonderful, peaceful, reflective cemetery to visit. You can not help to be moved by it. The setting is quiet, peaceful, and respectful. Take your time and wander among the graves and the memorial. You will be glad you did it!

“Thank you”

Our private tour included a visit to Punchbowl Cemetery. It was the most well kept and beautifully designed, manicured and symbolic cemetery we have ever visited. I find it amazing that every piece of the monument was so carefully thought out to represent and pay homage to the souls whose final resting place is there and the many conflicts in which they lost their lives protecting the freedom we all so oftentimes take for granted.

“Cemetery visit”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

The cemetery is taken in on most city tours of Honalulu and is a peaceful setting. The statute appears as part of the start of Hawaii Five O and is worthy of a visit and photos.
