Owner description: The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

“A must see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

A must see attraction. Most tours only drive through with no stopping but Roberts offer a tour that allows you to stop and tour the entire monument and read all the plaques. It also offers a narrated tour by a retired veteran. Be sure to stop in the chapel and say a prayer for all those who have given so much for us.

“A very good place to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

This place is also called the Punchbowl because it is located in an inactive volcanono. There are tours but they just roll through slowly and they don't stop. My wifes grandfather's grave is located in this cemetery and she wanted to see it so we called the cab company. Its about $50.00 round trip and we were not sure how long it would take. We decided to take the city bus. It cost $2.50 each person and you get transfers. We went up through Pacific Heights to the cemetery. There is a lookout point, a memorial building. On the front is "our lady" which is the beginning shot on Hawaii Five-O. Very pleasant. Fact: there is no more room for burials, but there will be a new building that will have room for 7000 niches. When you think of all of the idiotic, stupid things our government does, this is truly worthwile and honors American heroes and their families.

It is a beautiful spot to visit and see first hand. To see the plaques of the unknown soldiers is very heart taking. A must see for all
