Owner description: Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

Between checking out from our hotel and arriving at the airport, my boyfriend and I had a couple hours to spend in Honolulu. The park was near the hotel, so we decided to find a nice picnic table in the shade and people watch for a while. The park itself is beautiful and we got to watch a wedding, sailboats in the water, barges out at sea, and other pleasantries. However, there is quite a problem with homeless on Oahu and the park is one of the places for them to congregate. We never felt threatened, but the smell of unwashed bodies in the sun encouraged us to find a new locale.

Lovely park to relax and have a picnic if you can get a table without a homeless person camping out on it!!! And they were very rude and demanding of us several times. I would not go except in daylight. It is really a beautiful park.

Aside from the fact that it is at the foot of Diamond Head...it's just a park. Not worth a special trip down there to see it.

Lovely park between new otani hotel and waikiki. Some very unusual trees which seem to grow roots from their branches.(indian banyan trees). These large trees give welcome shade on a hot sunny day. Locals seem to enjoy family barbeques on a daily basis in this park - nice atmosphere

THis place is huge - you get amazing views of Diamond Head - The Ocean - there is an outdoor stage/band stand and there are many events always going on in this park

Very close to the zoo and there are tennis courts as well
