Owner description: Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

OK - I know a lot of people are put off by all the homeless people in Kapiolani park, but they are what gives the park a community spirit. The park, aside from being well-manicured and very beautiful, is a gathering place for AA, for yoga groups, for tai chi practitioners, and all manner of those gathering for a positive purpose. I love Kapiolani park just for that reason. Of my 5 trips to Oahu, I've always met interesting people from all over the world in Kapiolani Park who are just passing through or taking a respite from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. It's a great place to take a breather, people watch, stroll, read a book, check the ipad... A lovely mini-escape.

“Relaxing place”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Waikiki can be quite stressful if you limit yourself to all the bustle of shops and restaurants, but there is an oasis, the Kapiolani Park. Fine trees, peace of mind and the best part of Waikiki Beach. If you have a morning available be sure to visit the Honolulu Zoo is fun for children and adults who enjoy besides the animals, beautiful gardens.

We walked in this park just about every night!
You walk down Wakiki beach towards Diamond Head to get to the park.
There's some street people down there(actually in every park) but there's also some police!
When your in this park or on Wakiki beach you'll see a wonderful sunst!

Very large park close to the zoo and Waikiki beach area. Lots of fun statues and trees. We walked through here to go to the beach, parking was pretty filled up close to the beach, so we had to walk through this park to get there. Lots of activities going on, you can see people playing soccer and enjoying life.

“Awesome Landside Views”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Went there to play in a softball tournament and although the softball fields left much to be desired, the views while playing ball was amazing.

Wide open fields with nice shade along the edges. Great views of Diamond Head and surrounding mountains where everyday we saw some spectacular rainbows
