We went for a mid afternoon cocktail and snack and although the bar was only about 20% full, we waited ages to be given menus and had to ask for the table to be wiped down. We ordered two different types of Mai tais and when they were eventually delivered, there was no mention from the waitress as to which was which. Again, had to wait and wait for the bill and then again to pay it.

We actually prefer table service to buffet breakfast so after trying buffets at House Without a Key, The Veranda and Shore Bird, we thought we try the table service at Surf Lanai. This is your typical tourist level restaurant where the servers are good, but not great, and overly friendly, i.e. too talkative. But I am comparing the servers to the staff at Halekulani which is really unfair. We were not disappointed with this restaurant nor were we overly excited. The server pushed the Eggs Benedict and they lived up to his recommendation. The setting was beachfront and a bit dated like the hotel but everything was clean. We would go back for the Eggs Benedict since they are definitely a table service item and the price was very reasonable for a Waikiki beachfront landmark hotel . . .about $12 for the entree.

Food is average but overpriced even for a hotel restaurant, service is good. You are under umbrellas and in the middle of Waikiki Beach which can be very entertaining.
