If there's a restaurant that's similar to an East coast diner, it's Liliha Bakery Restaurant. With a varied menu, offering typical mainland dishes to the island favorites of the locals. I enjoyed a wonderful banana waffle and my husband enjoyed sweet bread French toast. Oh, and we were talked into ordering one of their most popular menu items, grilled buttered rolls, with a side of their homemade strawberry jelly. OMG, it was sooo good!

It's off the beaten path for most visitors vacationing in Honolulu, but certainly well worth the trip. The restaurant, doesn't have any tables and chairs. Just a long counter with approximately 25 stools. When we arrived around 9am on Saturday, we had to wait for 30 min before we were seated. Our breakfast was definitely worth the wait. If I ever go back, I want to try one of their pastries. People waiting in line with us, told us their cocoa puff pastries are the best. Ah yes, next time.....

We happened upon the Liliha Bakery in search of dessert in Honolulu and we found the motherload!! This bakery and diner is in a neighborhood and is nothing fancy, except awesome food and baked goods. Now, we just enjoyed the baked goods, but the diner seats were full and the parking lot was busy. We had a cupcake, an apple turnover, an éclair, a pineapple upside down cake and something else fantastic. It was unbelievable! The best pastries I've had since Long Island. And the price is right, we got 5 pastries for $14!

Visited here today for for the coco puff. Just like a cream puff with a chantilly filling and caramel topping. Just delightful. Taste was perfect, but I prefer my pastry to be a bit more crisp like a cream puff

This place is a favorite while in Oahu! If you're wanting Hawaii's famous cocoa puffs, you want to go to Liliha Bakery. They're delicious, as are all of their baked goods. They even have them frozen and boxed up so you can fly home with some to share with family. Its hard to control yourself once you're in their bakery - everything looks wonderful. There's always a long line, but you take a number and enjoy deciding which of the goodies you'll order when your number is called.

We were directed here by a local. She said you have to try their coco puffs. She was soo right. Delicious. There are various flavors of puffs to choose from including green tea. My favorite would be any of the vanilla custard filled ones.

We also tried their turnovers and those were great too.

Depending on the time of day you will either have a long wait or a longer wait. So, be prepared to pull a number and be patient while waiting to be called on to make your take away order.

There is a long counter to order from their main menu (breakfast and lunch fare).

The ladies want your order quickly so be prepared with your decisions when called up.

The parking lot is a bit tight and fills up. We took our order and ate in the car at the Foster Botanical Garden not far away.

They have funny hours: 24 hours a day from Tuesday 6 a.m. to Sunday 8 p.m.
Closed Mondays.
