“Great stay!”
Reviewed May 16, 2009

My husband, son and I stayed at the Hale Koa from May 6-12. This was our first trip to Hawaii. We had a great stay at the Hale Koa. The rooms were clean and the staff was very nice. We arrived at 11am before check in time but they found us a room right away. The pools were clean and the view was beautiful. In regards to the food we liked the KoKo Cafe and the snack bar better than Biba's. Also as far as buying tickets to see attractions or go on activities-I recommend buying tickets from the ITR(information, ticketing and registration) at Fort Shafter ( office located in the PX) or Schofield Barracks. The prices are cheaper than what you would get at Hale Koa or probably anywhere else.

my wife and i were lucky enough to book an ocean front deluxe at Hale Koa...first night was in the Maile Tower...room was on 6th floor and rather dated...we inquired about a transfer to the renovated Ilima Tower for the rest of our stay...we lucked out. and got a 9th floor ocean front deluxe room in Ilima Tower..."night and day"....what a great room!. Same rate per night...we would have been VERY disappointed if we spent our week in Maile tower...this would have been a make or break deal...get in the Ilima Tower if you can!!!...
The Hale Koa has beautiful grounds and is convenient to everything...real nice beach at your doorstep. Barefoot Bar was ok but service/staffing, cleanup etc could have been better. Hotel Staff was exceptional...check-in, bell hops etc. Bibas Restaurant was nice and reasonably priced-order a cocktail called a "tropical Itch." Koko Cafe was fine-buffet breakfast with a nice selection. Again reasonably priced but suggest exploring neighboring restaurants. Didn't do the Luau or Magic Dinner show...heard food was "ok" in both cases but this was second hand information. Warriors Lounge was nice...Hale Koa fine dinig room was under renovation. There is an Outside Cafe downstairs ground level which wasn't bad at all for a quick bite...also a little deli/coffee shop down at ground level...better deal than the Starbucks on Lobby Level. Px on site is great for daily needs, snacks and a little shopping. We made it out to the Nex Mall for some really great shopping!
Reservations for attractions, tours etc can be made on site. Get there early as lines form quickly . Pick up some brochures in advance and review. ask a lot of questions while booking, particularly for first timers like us. go to the "orientation" provided for guests- informative and a free continental breakfast...aloha

Just pulling up to check in made us feel like we were someplace special. Everyone was so nice. The check in process was quick and easy. The room was pretty and we could see the ocean from the side of our balcony...though I enjoyed watching people coming and going on the street side.
The breakfast buffet was wonderful. I'm still dreaming of all the fresh fruit! Our dinner at the Koko Cafe was good too, as were the burgers at the snack shop. Only meal that wasn't good was the buffet at the Magic Show...BUT THE MAGIC SHOW WAS THE BEST!!!
We just booked to go back next year...we all need to have a little piece of heaven in our life.

My sister and I stayed at the Hale Koa 2 nights April 20-21. The hotel was booked the entire weekend, but was able to nab a room Thursday night in the oceanview room in the North Tower. The room was fabulous- I felt like I was staying in a heavenly bed at the Westin. The rooms looked like they had been renovated with all new furniture, marble countertops in bathroom and marble floor. I was pleasantly surprised and happy to fork over $147 for this awesome view. Room was spacious and had a large lanai. We woke up early and had a great breakfast buffet at the hotel. By far best buffet breakfast I've had in a long time. Super fresh and delicious fruit --the papaya was my fav, yummy eggs, sausage, omlettes, pancakes, waffles galore. They even had eggs benedict! We sat out on the patio and it was outstanding to munch on great food and enjoy the view of the beach. I called that morning to see if they had any availability and was booked a standard room. Was expecting the same quality, but without the view. 2nd night there wasn't so great. It was like motel 6 room and beds were super uncomfortable. Would rather have paid much less at a cheap motel. I suggest if you stay here def splurge the extra 30 bucks for oceanview or oceanfront accomodations. Didn't get much sleep that night and slept better at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel for 70 dollars the 3rd night in Honolulu. As far as location it's great to be within walking distance of everything and the parking was only $7 with in and out privileges. Their beachside bar has the strongest and cheapest mai tais in waikiki. Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Hale Koa and very lucky to have resorts like this for being active duty!

A sidewalk stroll to pools, & the beach! This is a great location right on Waikiki beach! Military & familys hotel. Very nice resort stay. Put our granddaughter into swimming lessons & she had a private lesson on a Saturday AM! She loved it & learned alot from her nice instructor.
