“True Aloha Spirit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

We were lucky enough to be able to check into this hotel after a very negative initial experience of Hawaii at another hotel.

Besides a prime beachfront location, central to everything, the staff are what really make this a truly outstanding hotel. We were greeted with enthusiasm by guest relations staff, who really endeavoured to change our initial poor impressions of the island ( thanks entirely to another conveyor belt type hotel).

The decor may be slightly daggy but staff, resturants and location more than make up for slightly dated rooms and a very small bath in bathroom. There is plenty of space for clothes and suitcases in bathroom area. 2 double beds in room plus a fold out sofa bed and a desk still allowed plenty of space. View from balcony was amazing ! Pool area is smallish but has plenty of chairs and you can walk straight onto the beach for a swim in the best water in the world.

What is also great about this place is Duke's Resturant, as this hotel is on the site of the original outrigger canoe club of Waikiki. This is truly an experience. Dukes is done out in 50's Hawaiian cliche decor (so cool), evoking memories of old Elvis movies. Loved it and went several times, including a special birthday. The food is good, fish dishes excellent, they cater for allergies and it is always packed, booking essential! Hula Grill is a similar, but less crowded experience. We ate here for breakfast most days, recommend the acai bowl with granola but they also do the standard, big breakfasts.

This place is all about the aloha spirit, the feeling of greeting, warmth and welcome. I will definitely be back!

Aloha klo_8. Thank you for choosing the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. We appreciate the opportunity to provide you and your family with a good impression of Hawai`i after your negative experience at another hotel. Our staff of Na Mea Ho`okipa (hosts) demonstrate their genuine Aloha spirit each day by taking the time to make guests feel like `ohana (family) during their stay. With the beach at our doorstep and 3 of Waikiki's finest oceanfront restaurants on property, our guests can enjoy a relaxing vacation without even leaving the hotel. Mahalo Nui Loa. We will look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

My husband and I have just spent 6 wonderful nights at this perfectly located hotel. This was our 5th visit to Waikiki and our 1st stay at this hotel but definitely not our last! Location is one of the best in Waikiki with very clean rooms and wonderful helpful staff special thanks to Heather and Reuben for all their help! In the heart of everything in Waikiki is at your doorstep. Pool area not very big for the size of the hotel and no umbrellas which are available for hire directly in front of the pool on the beach but at a cost of $60 per day which I think hotel guests should get a subsidised rate which apparently they stopped doing 2 years ago! Sun is too hot to stay at the pool when there is no shade but this is my ONLY gripe. Definitely recommend this hotel to friends and lok forward to staying again. Many Thanks to wonderful helpful courteous staff !

We booked Outrigger as part of a package so weren't sure what to expect but found it clean, the room spacious, view wonderful. Located in the middle of everything - the shops, mall, market, food court and beach.

We have stayed at Waikiki a number if times but this was our first time at The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. Don't be confused as there are two Outriggers on Waikiki one is Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach the other is Outrigger Reef on the Beach, I accidentally booked the wrong one on line and turned up by taxi to the wrong hotel. Both look good but I wanted the Outrigger Waikiki which is right next door to the Royal Hawaiian. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all great. They serve fresh honest food at reasonable prices which is consistently good. You need to book days in advance for dinner or just turn up an hour earlier than you want to eat and take a buzzer. Take a stroll along the beach or main shopping drag and head back, it is worth the wait. I shared the ribs on night wi my husband and they were very nice. We had the turkey sandwich at lunch best I have ever had, or 24 year old son had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich which he loved. They have live music from 4pm which is a fun and friendly bar seen. Also nice for singles at the bar. TIP arrive early to get a seat at the bar or table as this is very popular. We found all the staff to be the friendliest we have ever come across. A huge huge plus is the air conditioning in your room, it makes absolutely no noise and works even with the balcony door open, some shut of automatically when you open the balcony door. Beds are great too. A must do is go out on the yellow outrigger canoe it is $15 and is fantastic fun. We also went snorkelling at Hanauma Bay you can take the 22 bus on the Main Street heading east it cost us $2.50 TIP take the correct money for the bus no change given or you can hire a car. Take lunch and drinks with you. Snorkelling gear available to hire there. If you like japanese you must go to Doraku I'd score it 10/10.

Room Tip: We choose Ocean front fabulous views to Diamond Head and the sunset.

Great first place to stay when you visit Oahu . The staff is very helpful and courteous . They greet you every time. The ambiance gives you a great feel of being in the islands. Great location . You are in the middle of the busiest street with plenty of options to eat all 3 of your meals.
It is noisy at night because of the sirens of the police . However once you close the sliding door you hardly hear if you are located towards the beachside.
Their bar at Dukes is just casual and great. Their bartenders are just great. We even saw our first time bartender of 3 years ago. Their Ma Tai"s are delicious and on the spot every single time. The hula pie to die for! At dinner the salad bar option is the healthiest option I have seen.
You can go surfing right in front. If there is any water competition you have front row. We have visited Dukes several times on our first trip to Oahu. This was our second visit in 3 years and it still has its charming essence.
Ok I'm completely enchanted with Hawaii and having the island experience.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the side or on the sea side. higher floors. If you enjoy the hustle and bustle of...

First trip to Hawaii en route back to the UK from New Zealand. We loved Hawaii and will definitely be back. We only stayed for 2 nights but managed to pack in as much as possible. This hotel was recommended to us by our travel agent as a good base to explore the area. Its right on the beach, which although crowded when we were there (January), is a great spot to just chill out and watch the sun go down, sunset cruises leave from the beach. Check out the guy with the sausage dog which goes on the cruise with you!
We didn't spend too much time in the hotel. The room was comfortable enough and had everything that we needed. I did think the decor was a bit dated and starting to look a little 'tired'. The staff were all very attentive and helpful and always cheerful! We had the buffet lunch in the restaurant for lunch on the day we left. Service was quick and the food was ok. ( A good choice if you want to choose your own portion size. We were staggered by the MASSIVE portions we had in the places where we ate. One plateful was enough to feed both of us and we still left some!) It seemed to be a popular choice for guests staying in the hotel as there always seemed to be a queue to get in!
All in all we were happy with our choice out of the many hotels there are in the area!
