What we wanted was a Hotel on the Beach with a view, and everything within walking distance. It was perfect for us.

Believe me, I read all the reviews about the elevators being slow, the ice machine noise and the paper thin walls.

None of this was experienced by us. Our stay was relaxing, the hotel staff was great! The security of the elevators was one thing we appreciated. You can only get on them with a key.

We had a city room and had a view of the beach and the street. We were on the 8th floor and the furniture was nice.

We would definitely recommend this hotel. We are both over 65, stay at a lot of nice hotels in Vegas, so we were more than pleased with everything at the hotel. I did shake the managers hand and thanked her, because of so many good things they offer there.

We stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach from Oct 25th to Nov 3rd 2007. There were initally problems with our reservation, we were to get a room with a King size bed, but they could not provide us with that so they gave us a free upgrade to an Oceanview room. The hotel is very clean, and very secure. A security feature that I really liked was you have to use your room key to go up in the elevator. Anyone can go down in the elevator to the common floors but to go to the guest areas you had to use your room key. I would suggest that they extend their checkout time to match your flight times. We had to check out at Noon, and we were not getting picked up to return to the airport until 7:45 PM. While they did store our luggage for it would have been nice to keep the room until about 5 pm, especially since we did not check in until 5 pm the day we arrived due to a mid afternoon flight arrival. We did inquire about keeping the room until 5 PM and they wanted to charge us an additional $180 for 4 hours, which is outrageous. All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Oahu, it is a great hotel, with great service

After noticing the Outrigger reef was under renovations and needing a stopover hotel for 2 nights after a 5 week trip through Canada and the US i chose the Outrigger Waikiki.

As soon as i arrived by shuttle the bellman took my bags and i was greeted personally by a man who presented me with a lei, checked his clipboard to tell me they had my reservation on record and then directed me to the Check In Desk.

As someone said you sit down to check in which is a nice touch and a little different as that's the first hotel i've been too that does that.

The check in agent offered me a room upgrade from a city view to a full ocean view as part of a "Deal" they had. I decided to go for it and ended up with Full Ocean View on the 15th floor for an extra $300 US for the 2 nights i was there! I'm so glad i did that my room was wonderful!

Room was very spacious, Immaculate and even had a walk in wardrobe! Toliet/Shower were spotless and they had a nice generous serving of tolietries. Whilst i could hear the odd person out in the hallway the thin walls never really caused any problem for me.

I also liked the fact they had an express elevator for guests on Level 14 - 16, Saved so much time than having to go floor by floor!

The gym was 24 hours and the pool was great, The only problem i had was the pool closed at 8pm! That was so early, but i loved being able to swim in the pool whilst watching the waves come in on the beach.

I used the coin operated washer and dryers they had set up one night out near the pool, They were great to have nearby but i did wonder why they'd put them out in the open, I mean what if it rains?

A great hotel and i'd be happy to stay there again!

  • Liked — Beautiful rooms
  • Disliked — The pool closed too early!

My husband and I chose the Outrigger Waikiki for our trip to Hawaii celebrating our 12th anniversary from Oct. 29 - Nov. 4, 2007. It couldn't have been better!

We were greeted by friendly people as soon as we stepped out of the van from the airport. The gentleman greeted us BY NAME as we walked into the lobby and escorted us to the check-in desk. Our room was VERY
spacious with a king bed, sofa, large vanity area w/ separate shower and bathroom. We had a small lanai with a partial ocean view as we had
planned.

The restaurants there are great! We ate at Duke's Canoe Club for breakfast, lunch and dinner on several occasions, and also dined at the Hula Grill which was a fantastic experience as well. Everyone we came in contact with from the hotel were very friendly and accommodating.

I had read all the complaints prior to our trip regarding the thin walls and noise. We heard very little, if any, noise and found it to be peaceful at night with no trouble going to sleep due to noise disturbance at all.

It's location was also fabulous - right in the middle of everything! We actually had a car reserved for two days and ended up cancelling it as we saw no need for one. We had done a Circle Island Tour and had seen the entire island! You are within walking distance of everything - great shops, super restaurants, and that great beach is just right outside the door! All in all, we decided we would DEFINITELY stay there again if we ever have the pleasure of returning to Hawaii. (fingers crossed - we will!).

  • Liked — The spaciousness of the room and the tropical decor. Loved everything about the hotel!
  • Disliked — Our room had partial ocean view, but also looked right into the rooms of the adjacent hotel.

I arrived in honolulu after an 8 hour flight from sydney so i was a bit out of it. Me, my parents and my girlfriend wanted to go on a holiday to hawaii. we chose the outrigger because it looked good on the internet and seemed like that there would be plenty to do around. We got our transfer to the hotel and as soon as we walked in we were greeted, escorted to the table to check in. we had originally booked a city view room. Without even asking we were upgraded to a full ocean view room which was spectacular. The hotel was amazing, the beach was unbelievable. there were 3 restaurants located in the hotel and a coffee shop as well as boutiques, souvineers and clothing stores in the lower lobby. The people were friendly and made us feel welcome. Honolulu is a really busy place and very on the go so if you haven't been there before don't expect it to be too relaxing. THe outrigger was a fantastic stay. The rooms were rather small but we had expected. The bathroom had a seperate toilet which was good considering we had four people in the room which meant the bathroom wasn't always locked. there was also a big storage area for luggage which we needed with all the suitcases. for us as a family it was great and i would imagine a honeymoon would be even better keeping in mind that this didn't seem to be a resort more so a hotel.

  • Liked — the view, location, staff

There are some posts from the same period we stayed at this On The Beach property. (Nov 1-3)
We have stayed at some of the finest beach fronts in the world and can compare and comment with some experiance. Arrival at any beach front at Waikiki will be hectic and somewhat of a circus.
Our experiance upon arrival at the Outrigger was seemless. Out of the cab, bags placed immediatly on a cart by a smiling bellman and ride up the escalator (past Seattles Best Coffee kiosk) to be met by a smiling hostess greeting us by name. (It all started w/ the bellman at the curb who asked us to carefully pronounce our complex last name. Avoid the bellman and try to save a small tip and cart your own bags in, and it's going to be a long start to a short trip)
We had booked an OCEAN VIEW room. As I sat checking in I saw and heard three other guest groups arguing that they had booked an OCEAN FRONT while the desk person showed them on their own confirmation paper work OVEAN VIEW. Read the property descriptions and the advised traveler will know the difference.
Arrived in our room with an OCEAN VIEW on the 7th floor, it was all we had expected and all that we had paid for. Could have had more, but that's not what we ordered.
It's an easy tumble from the King Bed to the elevator, onto the Beach through the Dukes Barefoot Bar to either the Pool or Sandside Patio. All the towels you want, drinks and snacks at the order and our time could not have been nicer.
Walls thin???? yep. (in our case it was noise through the adjoing room secure door) That is our one small complaint. But listen carefully to what you hear, and it could make you laff, we did.
It is what it is.

My husband and booked the Outrigger because we wanted to stay at a hotel that was centrally located and right on the beach. We had also read many great reviews of the hotel on this website so we figured we couldn't go wrong.

Upon arriving to the hotel we were greeted by a very friendly lady named Jan. Unfortunately, she ended up being the best part of the hotel. Jan informed us that we would be staying on the first floor in a room with a queen bed. Upon booking the hotel in May, we had requested a king bed on a higher floor. I do realize that requests are sometimes not possible, but I figured that they should at least be able to try and accomodate one of them. We said that the queen bed was no problem, but did they have something on a higher floor? She looked in the computer and eventually found us a room on the top floor with a queen bed. We headed up to the room and were extremely disappointed. The room was the most awkward shape. The bed was in a corner up against a wall and did not face the TV which was on the opposite side of the room. The bathroom was tiny and I could barely fit in it. The decor of the room seemed outdated and everything felt old. The balcony was very tiny and seemed somewhat unsafe. We went back down to the reception and asked Jan if there were any other rooms available. She then put us in another queen room on the 12th floor which she assured us we would be more happy with. This room was not much better. The bathroom was bigger, but the tub was half the size of a normal tub and the floor was dirty. I also lifted up the toilet lid to go to the bathroom and found urine all over the seat! We ended up staying just one night at this hotel and we checked out the very next day. They did not penalize us for leaving early and just charged us for one night. Before we left I checked out the pool. It was very small and not private at all. Anyone walking on the beach could have gained access to the pool as there were steps leading up to it from the beach.

Don't waste your money on this hotel. There are far nicer hotels just minutes away from the beach that are still reasonably priced. We checked into the Hilton Prince Kuhio wihich was a hundred times better than the Outrigger. It is newly renovated and each room has a huge bathroom and a 42 inch plasma TV!!
