“Terrific suite at Grand Waikikian”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2009

We booked a 2 bedroom oceanview and were upgraded to a penthouse 2 bedroom on the 39th floor. The views were terrific. Access to the concierge lounge for continental breakfast and evening snacks was a bonus. The suite was wonderful. The housekeeping was excellent. The only issue with the suite was that the dryer takes all day to dry anything. The pool at the GW was mobbed with kids (including my own) using the water slides. It was not a relaxing environment at all. The Super pool was a little better. We did not care for the lagoon at HHV . The man made "beach" felt like hard concrete covered with a very thin layer of very rough sand. We also did not care for the stretch of Waikiki beach that fronts HHV. We found it murky and seaweedy. Overall, though, we enjoyed HHV, though it is a crowded mega resort. The grounds are lovely. Lapperts coffee and ice cream is not to be missed. The Friday night hula and fireworks show was fun too. We were glad we rented a car and explored Oahu. We loved he Kahala area, Diamond Head, the North Shore and the southeast coast.

My family stayed at the Grand Waikikian for a week in July. We found the rooms to be very comfortable with a great balcony to enjoy the great ocean views. We sat on the balcony every morning and watched the dozens of surfers outside our window. The rooms were quiet. We did not hear any outside noise from the pools, etc. The beds were very comfortable, even the sofa bed which our 12 year old slept on. We have two children ages 10 an 12, and they enjoyed using the pools and the lagoon. It was great to have the shops and eateries right on site. It was also very convienent to pick up tours from within the Hilton Village. Overall it was an excellent week. We found everyone to be very friendly and eager to help! We would definitely return again and will recommend this hotel to friends traveling to Hawaii in the future!

My wife, two children (21&16) and I stayed at the Hilton Grand Waikikian from July 20th to July 26th. This is our third trip to this resort and we thoroughly enjoyed our previous stay at the Lagoon tower. We were looking forward to the new tower. Our family has been a HGVC owner for over ten years and we have truly enjoyed the HGVC ownership until our visit to the Hilton Grand Waikikian.

Being a HGVC owner, we know the practice of room assignment and had requests notated for our reservation. None of the requests were met. The check in process seemed smooth but not friendly and the room was not the luxury we were expecting or lead to be expecting. We felt that we were bumped to a very low 11th floor. When we confronted the front desk, we were told that the building is fully booked and nothing could be done. In all my travels, I was surprised of the callous answer. In addition when you check in, make sure you request to have your room card specially coded to use the parking garage if you have a rental car otherwise you will have an angry line of cars behind you while you are trying to swipe your room key.

To be fair, the room was very clean and well maintained; of course the place is new. All appliances work well and were clean. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The lobby area is very nice and very well decorated. The resort has many amenities, shops and restaurants. The beach is nice and a protected area for swimming. It truly is a good family resort.

Something has changed since our previous visits. The staff did not smile or acknowledge you but to be fair there were a couple of occasions of friendly staff members. As a return visitor we were expecting a level of service we have come to know from Hilton due to previous visits. Our room living area was very small, in fact smaller the any previous HGVC property we have visited in our travels.

We tried to use the pool next to the GW. During busy period, too crowded and even counted fifteen small children in the Jacuzzi or hot tub (on several days). Also, people put towels on chairs (in the morning) to reserve a spot, even though they are not at the pool.

We have visited other Hilton properties and after we left the GW, we stayed a week on the Big Island at a Hilton GVC resort. Level of service on the Big Island was excellent. Staff friendly and our suite was very nice in comparison to the GW.

In summary, I would recommend a visit to the facility but would recommend the Lagoon Tower. If you had to stay in the Hotel the Rainbow tower has a great view and we also enjoyed our stay in the Tapa Tower (years ago), ocean facing corner room. To add, I was on vacation and I am not a confrontational person or one who complains or is demanding. I love HGVC, they have been great up to this point. It just seems that the staff is not happy working at this resort. I prefer to let my wallet finalize any negotiations.

Our family of five stayed for five nights in a one bedroom unit. We chose the Grand Waikikian over the other Hilton Towers for the extra space and the in-room kitchen and laundry and to be in a location that was quieter. It was all of those. The rooms were comfortable and clean yet on the small side. The laundry was helpful, but took forever. It was near impossible to get a chair at the pool. The lagoon was close by, but the ocean beach...which was wide and open...was a little further away. This was fine for our family. As a Hilton Gold, we recieved complimentary breakfast in members lounge in the Rainbow Tower...coffee, juice, pastries, fruit and hard boiled eggs.

Overall, this hotel worked for us. It was good, not very good.

This is our second visit to Honolulu as HGVC timeshare owners. Our previous visit was spent at the Lagoon Tower, and on this visit we were in the new Grand Waikikian Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

First, the new tower is quite lovely, with upscale decor and amenities throughout. Since everything is practically brand new it's hard to complain about the place.

Our first three nights were in the Penthouse on the 37th floor. We had a two room master suite and there is no doubt this unit is very deluxe and upscale. Stainless steel, marble, granite and topnotch appliances, furnishings and bath amenities etc. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and the Hilton property.

Out next seven nights were in a two bedroom plus unit on the 31st floor. We specifically asked to be on the Ewa/Harborside view since we wanted to see the fireworks on the 4th of July. So while we did miss the open ocean view from the Diamond Head side, we had a great view for the fireworks.

These rooms are smaller and more "cozy" than the two bedroom penthouse. Instead of a separate dining room and table, there was a cute nook area, that we actually preferred over a separate dining area. There was not as much granite/marble and the appliances were black and not SS, and the soaps were standard fare rather than L'Occitane as they were in the penthouse. Here rather than a two king bedroom master we had a king bedroom and two queens in the second bedroom, which was better for our family of four.

There is no doubt this is a very lovely project.

We found the service to be excellent and we had no problem with the valets or bellhops, we simply called ahead and usually found our car waiting for us.

Now for the negative - While this is a beautiful property, in my opinion it is no match for the older Lagoon Tower which is lagoon front and only steps from the beach. To us the Grand Waikikian was just too far removed from the overall Hilton Village and way too far from the beach. Now for some this wouldn't be a problem, but for us, we will book the Lagoon Tower if we do make it back to Honolulu, simply because we prefer its location over the Grand Waikikian.

Condo-style hotel, rooms are nice but not extraordinary. Service was great but the staff seems small and it was often hard to find help. Our room had a "partial view" of the water which meant you can see the beach and water when you walked out on to the balcony and looked to your left. But the sights and sounds from our balcony were dominated by downtown Honolulu. On the other hand, we were only a 2-minute walk away from Waikiki beach!

I stayed with my family for one week at the Grand Waikikian. The timeshare was spacious and well appointed. The Hilton Hawaiian Village was beautiful but very crowded. The food in the restaurants was good but way overpriced. We ate many of our meals across the street at the 24 hour coffee house. The pools were also extremely busy and it was often difficult to get chairs unless you arrived very early/late in the day. The parking fee of $25 per day was way too much and parking was not convenient if you were staying in the Waikikian. Save your money and park in the public harbor parking lot just past he entranced to the Waikikian. The Hilton Hawaiian Village was pretty far from the heart of Waikiki beach and all it's shops and restaurants. If you have a car it's not a problem but parking was hard to come by. Overall our stay was pleasant but we were able to stay there at a discounted price. If I had to pay full price I would have stayed elsewhere.
