We were visiting the Islands of Hawaii on a "Holiday of a Lifetime" and decided to book the one day Oahu to Big Island Volcano Eco Night Tour (33A) through Hawaii Activities & Discover so that we could experience the Hawaii Volcano National Park.
The trip was a disaster, as firstly Hawaii Activities forgot to advise us that our flight Check In time at Honolulu airport had been changed from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. We duly arrived at Honolulu airport to be told that our flight had already gone. We did however manage to re-arrange this trip for the following day and managed to get to Big Island by air on time on the following day.
Once on Big Island we spent the morning viewing Banyan trees, a Japanese garden, a very nice waterfall and a Macadonia Nut factory, not exactly what we had expected!
We were then transported to the Volcano Golf & Country Club for lunch, poor location and food quality, where we were then expected to pay for our lunch on top of our already extortionate tour fee!
The afternoon consisted of visiting several Volcano viewing sites, all very nice, and we were building up to our Volcano Night Eco Tour! Again we duly arrived to view the lava flowing into the sea at night only to be told that we must be back on our tour bus by 7:00 p.m. in order to get back to Hilo airport for our flight back to Honolulu. Unfortunately the sun did not completely set until around 7:30 p.m. so we were unable to glimpse any molten lava moving down the hillside or into the sea, our main reason for taking the trip.
We paid $649.18 for the two of us for this experience, which in our opinion was grossly over rated and over priced. Our advice would be to think twice before paying a large amount of money in future for this tour.
